Job Title:
Sewing Technician Job Description The Sewing Technician fabricates high-quality soft goods using industrial sewing equipment while following strict procedures, drawings, and quality standards. This role requires advanced proficiency with multiple industrial sewing machines, precise cutting and sewing to tight tolerances, and the ability to interpret soft-goods fabrication and assembly drawings. The Sewing Technician supports production by safely operating specialized equipment, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring that all fabricated products meet specified requirements. Responsibilities Operate industrial sewing machines, including Straight Stitch (single and double needle), Walking Foot, Bartack, Buttonhole, and Rolled Hem Serger, to fabricate soft-goods components and finished products. Sew materials by hand and by machine to join, gather, reinforce, or decorate materials and fabricated articles while maintaining very tight tolerances. Cut materials according to specifications and cut excess material or thread from finished products using blades, scissors, or electric knives with high precision. Read and interpret soft-goods fabrication and assembly drawings in English to ensure accurate construction of products. Fabricate soft-goods patterns based on drawings, specifications, and work-authorizing documents. Position and mark patterns on materials to prepare for sewing and ensure correct layout prior to fabrication. Feed and guide materials through rollers, guides, and under the sewing machine presser foot and needle during operation to maintain consistent quality. Examine and measure finished articles to verify conformance to standards, specifications, and quality requirements. Monitor machine operation to detect issues such as defective stitching, breaks in thread, or machine malfunctions and take corrective action as needed. Mount and adjust machine attachments, such as needles and guides, according to specifications to support various sewing operations. Set up sewing machines by placing spools of thread, cord, or other materials on spindles, inserting bobbins, and threading materials through machine guides and components. Remove finished materials from sewing machines, inspect them, and prepare them for subsequent processing or delivery. Clean, oil, and perform routine maintenance on sewing machines, including replacing needles, to keep equipment in proper working condition. Use specialized automatic or semi-automatic sewing equipment and other tools as required to fabricate products efficiently and accurately. Record the amount of materials processed and work completed in production logs to support tracking and reporting. Perform all duties in accordance with established safety training, operating procedures, desk instructions, and work-authorizing documents. Ensure the quality and accuracy of product fabrication by closely following fabrication instructions and drawings. Work effectively under tight deadlines and project schedules while maintaining high standards of workmanship. Essential Skills 5+ years of industrial sewing experience. Proficiency in operating industrial sewing machines, including Straight Stitch (single and double needle), Walking Foot, Bartack, Buttonhole, and Rolled Hem Serger. Experience in industrial sewing or soft-goods manufacturing, preferably in fields requiring high precision such as aerospace. Proficiency in reading soft-goods fabrication and assembly drawings in English. Proficiency in fabricating soft-goods patterns from drawings and specifications. Ability to sew materials by hand and by machine to very tight tolerances. Ability to cut materials according to specifications and remove excess material or thread using blades, scissors, or electric knives to very tight tolerances. Ability to monitor machine operation and identify issues such as defective stitching, thread breaks, or machine malfunctions. Experience working with tight deadlines and project schedules. High school diploma. Ability to meet background screening requirements, including a 10-year background check. Eligibility to work in the United States as required by the role. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in industrial sewing or soft-goods manufacturing within aerospace is a strong plus. background in theater costume or stage production sewing is highly suitable. Experience in alterations, apparel, or other clothing-related sewing environments is beneficial. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work. Work is schedule-driven, with tight deadlines and project timelines that require focus, consistency, and reliable attendance. Appropriate attire will align with a professional production setting and may include safety-related clothing or equipment as required by specific tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Webster, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.54 - $34.01/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
