Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a responsible, dependable, and self-motivated individual to join our artisan food production team at our small cheese plant in La Valle, WI . This full-time role supports daily cheesemaking operations and sanitation activities. This position also offers a unique opportunity to participate in our Cheesemaker Apprenticeship Program , providing a clear pathway to licensure and a long-term career in Wisconsin's dairy industry. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform general cheesemaking production duties. Clean and sanitize equipment and production areas according to food safety standards. Assist with various stages of artisan cheese production. Follow all food safety, quality, and sanitation procedures. Work independently while contributing effectively to a team environment. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times. Cheesemaker Apprenticeship Program Overview The Carr Valley Cheese Apprenticeship Program is a long-term, earn-and-learn training initiative designed for individuals serious about building a career in cheesemaking. Through paid mentorship over 18-24 months , apprentices will receive: Hands-on, immersive training in all aspects of cheesemaking Financial and educational support One-on-one mentorship with an expert cheesemaker Internal education and training through the Center for Dairy Research at UW-Madison The required 240 hours of experience to qualify for: Wisconsin Cheesemaker License Pasteurizer Operator License Apprentices will gain experience in food safety, milk handling, multiple cheese varieties, best practices, and butter production. Required Job Skills and Qualifications Ability to work independently and follow instructions accurately Strong work ethic and willingness to learn Interest in food science, agriculture, or culinary arts Manufacturing experience preferred (1 year) Cheesemaker License (Preferred) Pasteurizer License (Preferred) Schedule Monday - Saturday (Alternating Days) 6:00 AM - 2:00
