Balsa Mat Cutter

Summary:

The Balsa Mat Cutter will be responsible for measuring and cutting balsa and mat according to work orders or blueprints to be used in the lamination process. Marks appropriate cutting lines around patterns or templates, or follows layout points, using squares, rules, and straightedges, and chalk, pencils, or scribes

Main Responsibilities:

• Trim excess material or cut threads off finished products
• Read work orders or blueprints to determine dimensions, cutting locations, and quantities to cut
• Fold or shape materials before or after cutting them
• Separate materials or products according to each work order
• Inspect and mark parts with correct work order numbers
• Position templates or measure materials to locate specified points of cuts or to obtain maximum yields, using rules, scales, or patterns
• Stack cut items and load them on racks or deliver them to their specific department
• Replace or sharpen dulled cutting tools
• Perform basic routine maintenance on cutting machines
• Mark or discard items with defects or imperfections then remove the items from inventory
• Determine correct prints and patterns to be used throughout the cutting process
• Lower table-mounted cutters such as knife blades, cutting wheels, or saws to cut items to specified sizes
• Route items to provide cutouts for parts, using portable routers, grinders, and hand tools
• Trim excess material or cut threads off finished product
• Follow cutting practices to achieve the highest quality standards
• Understands and utilizes the band saw to the highest efficiency
• Final self-inspect completed products
• Follow the production schedule for all departments
• Drives high-standard practices for housekeeping in the areas
• Work within the defined Company safety standards
• All other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Understands and maintains Cruiser's safety and housekeeping standards
• Understands and maintains Cruiser's quality standards and applies proper procedures
• Master of all applications in the balsa or mat process
• Advanced understanding of drawings and blueprints (supporting each stage of the cutting process
• Problem-solving
• Flexibility - can adjust to change and tolerance for stressful conditions
• Can organize work and perform tasks stand alone, be self-directed as well as within a team environment
• Detail oriented
• Must be able to work at various plants based on need and ability to travel if necessary
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Education and Experience:

• Must be able to pass pre-employment qualifications
• Must be able to read at an 8th-grade level
• On-the-job training

Physical Requirements:

(May be repetitive in nature)

• Must be able to lift 60 pounds at times, and have the physical ability to meet strength and movement requirements for the position
• Wear required PPE and work in a dusty environment
• Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time, crawl, walk, carry, squat, kneel, bend or stoop, walk on uneven surfaces, climb, twist at the waist, and reach at or above or below the shoulders
• Lifting (up to 60lbs) and push or pull (up to 60lbs)
• Fine manipulation of one or both hands and be able to grasp with one or both hands

Working Conditions:

• Occasionally works in or around: outdoor weather conditions, mechanical moving parts, and chemical exposure
• Frequently works in or around: high places unprotected, vibration, fumes or gases, toxic chemicals, odors
• Continuously works in or around: dirt or dust
