Job Description

Position:
Brake Press OperatorShift:
1st shift | Monday - Thursday, 5:00 AM - 3:30
PMReporting Relationship:
Brake Press Operators will report to the
Department Lead/Shift Supervisor General Responsibilities:
  • Reads blueprints and weld assemblies to comply with engineering standards.
  • Selects, positions and aligns dies in machine ram and bed.
  • Devises and builds temporary dies.
  • Turns set screws or bolts to fasten clamp bar that holds dies firmly in position.
  • Adjusts screws to set specified pressure of ram and clearance between dies to thickness of metal as indicated by calibrated scale or feelers.
  • Lays out or detail layout on work stock from blueprints or templates.
  • Positions workplace manually or with crane to align layout marks to dies.
  • Starts machine to lower ram or press pedal to activate ram that bends or cuts metal.
  • Sets stops on machine bed and repositions stock to run successive pieces or to perform multiple operations.
  • Verifies dimensions of work piece.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 1-3 months related experience and/or training.
  • Forklift Certification-to be provided by Steel King.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Apply skills to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.
  • Write simple correspondence.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees.
  • Satisfactorily perform essential duties.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries.
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
  • Calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Regularly stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to vibration.
  • Noise level is usually high.
  • Use hands to feel, finger or handle all types of materials.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and occasionally sitting, climbing or balancing.
  • Requires regular lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements; close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust your focus.
  • Must properly follow all safety rules, policies, and procedures including wearing and utilizing the proper PPE required of this position.
