Responsibilities Job Summary:
The primary purpose of this role is to assist machine operators in the press room. This is a production job requiring the Second Pressman to stand for up to 12 hours a day. The position requires that the individual be detail orientated and have a strong mechanical aptitude.Duties, Responsibilities & Abilities:
1: Deliver Quality Products Interpret and follow direction from a work ticket Interpret layouts and ticket information Check that correct paper is issued with the correct count Assist with press make ready and set up Assist in mounting plates and other items needed to process work Assist in the overall set up of the press, such as sheet size, coatings, blankets, etc. Check work against layouts, proofs and ticket information Inspect and perform pre and post processes to ensure quality at the source Assist in wash up between jobs Fill out necessary paperwork and records (check list, maintenance log, stock usage, etc.) Follow department procedures including QC checklists Monitor product quality Be part of the team resolving quality issues in the department Participate in quality audits for the department Assist with internal and external questions/problems to provide solutions for customers Report non-conforming materials for the department Accurately record your time and materials 2: Ensure Efficient Processes Follow daily press schedule to meet delivery dates Meet or exceed estimated standards Communicate, collaborate and share knowledge with all team members Provide feedback on consumables for all devices Participate in maintenance programs and assist with mechanical repairs to ensure quality products, track and log items and repairs. 3: Actively Engage in Continuous Improvement & Safety Follow all safety policies and procedures Collaborate with employees to develop and improve processes Develop ways to improve efficiency and throughput Participate in CAPA (corrective action preventative action) activities in the department Be part of an agile workforce that creates depth in all major cost centers Brainstorm and unveil CI (continuous improvement) opportunities Reduce waste, including rework, by attacking the eight wastes Maintain a clean and orderly 6S work area Continuously focus on expanding knowledgeOther Job Responsibilities:
Assist in the general upkeep of the press, including installing, cleaning and adjusting rollers Assist in the maintenance and cleaning of the press and surrounding area Keep area free from pallets, skid and skid tops Remove wastepaper, ink and solvents Provide feedback on new equipment purchases and decisionsQualifications Skills & Educational Requirements:
Prior commercial print shop experience a plus High School education or equivalent professional experience Ability to read a ruler Basic math skills Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment Ability to work well with co-workers in a team environment Ability to operate computer-based technologyPhysical Requirements:
Constant standing and/or walking Manual dexterity Frequently lift up to 50 lbs. Occasionally lift up to 75 lbs. Occasionally ascend/descend steps Occasionally squat or kneel Occasionally bendBenefits
