POSITION SUMMARY 307
Media is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Production Assistant to support the weekly production of the Uinta County Herald, Bridger Valley Pioneer and Kemmerer Gazette. This position assists with newspaper page layout, advertising production, special sections and final production checks. The ideal candidate is organized, comfortable working with deadlines and able to manage materials across multiple publications while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with weekly newspaper layout, pagination and production for all three publications. Create, resize and modify print advertisements using advertiser-provided materials. Place advertisements, editorial content, photographs and graphics according to established page plans and production instructions. Make corrections and revisions throughout the production process. Assist with special sections, promotional pages and seasonal publications. Verify advertisements are placed in the correct publication, issue and size. Compare completed pages against advertising runners, insertion orders and production materials to identify missing, duplicate or incorrect advertisements. Review completed pages for obvious production errors, including incorrect ads, page numbers, dates, headers, graphics or publication-specific content. Communicate missing information, discrepancies or potential errors to the appropriate team member before publication. Maintain organized advertising, artwork, template and production files. Assist with final preparation of completed pages for print. Provide additional production support during staff absences, holidays and high-volume production periods.
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work efficiently under firm weekly deadlines. Dependable and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Comfortable working independently and as part of a team. Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software and production processes. Ability to recognize inconsistencies and seek clarification rather than making assumptions. Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, graphic design, newspaper pagination or print production is preferred but not required.
SCHEDULE
This is a part-time position with hours structured around weekly newspaper production deadlines. Additional availability may occasionally be needed for holidays, special sections, staff absences or high-volume editions.
POSITION EXPECTATIONS
The Production Assistant is expected to help ensure that weekly publications are completed accurately and on deadline. Success in this position means scheduled advertisements are accounted for, materials appear in the correct publication, production errors are identified before printing whenever reasonably possible, and established production procedures are consistently followed.
