This position aligns with Texas Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards and supports both secondary and post-secondary pathways. The role ensures that dual credit welding courses maintain compliance with Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) standards, including rigor, assessment, and instructional alignment with college-level coursework. Minimum Qualifications Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent experience in welding inspection or maintenance inspection. Strong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GMA
W, FCA W, GT AW
). Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings. Working knowledge of welding codes and standards. Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Strong attention to detail and inspection accuracy. Ability to evaluate weld quality against defined standards. Effective communication and collaboration skills. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Working knowledge of preventative maintenance practices. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting Career and Technical Education (CTE) or dual credit programs. Familiarity with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for welding. OSHA safety training or certification. Experience mentoring or training entry-level welders. Experience with industrial equipment maintenance programs. Job Duties Job Duty Quality Control & Inspection Perform visual inspections of student welds using industry-accepted criteria. Identify weld discontinuities such as porosity, undercut, cracks, and lack of fusion. Document inspection results and maintain accurate records of student performance in alignment with Texas CTE accountability practices. Assist in developing and implementing inspection standards aligned with industry expectations, TEKS, and postsecondary course outcomes. Ensure student projects meet established quality benchmarks prior to completion or grading. Job Duty Instructional Support & Student Development Support welding faculty by reinforcing quality control concepts during lab activities. Guide students in understanding weld quality, tolerances, fit-up, and workmanship expectations. Assist students in interpreting blueprints, weld symbols, and measurement standards aligned with TEKS-based and college-level curriculum. Provide constructive, timely feedback to improve student welding performance. Reinforce the importance of quality and account accountability in real-world welding applications. Job Duty Program Support Collaborate with faculty to align lab projects with TEKS-based learning outcomes and college course syllabi. Assist in developing grading rubrics based on measurable quality criteria consistent with college-level expectations. Support the development and implementation of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS). Assist with student preparation for Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) events such as SkillsUSA. Job Duty Equipment Maintenance & Shop Operations Perform and oversee daily inspection of welding equipment to ensure proper operation and safety (machines, leads, torches, gas systems, etc.) Implement and monitor a preventative maintenance schedule for all welding and fabrication equipment. Identify equipment deficiencies and coordinate repairs or service as needed. Maintain maintenance logs and documentation for all shop equipment in accordance with program and institutional requirements. Ensure proper storage, handling, and inventory of consumables (electrodes, wire, shielding gas, etc.) Support instructors in maintaining an organized, clean, and fully operational lab environment. Job Duty Safety & Compliance Enforce shop safety rules in alignment with Texas CTE safety standards. Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Promote a culture of safety consistent with industry expectations and TEKS safety competencies. Monitor equipment condition and ensure all tools and machines meet safety requirements. Job Duty Industry & Career Readiness Reinforce employability skills as defined by Texas CTE, including attention to detail, accountability, and workmanship. Provide insight into industry expectations for welding quality, inspection, and equipment care. Support program alignment with workforce needs and postsecondary pathways. Job Duty Dual Credit Compliance ( THECB Alignment) Support implementation of dual credit courses in accordance with Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) rules and guidelines. Ensure student work and assessment practices reflect college-level rigor, comparable to on-campus undergraduate (UG) welding courses. Collaborate with the Welding Coordinator and Department Chair to maintain consistency in curriculum, grading standards, and learning outcomes between high school and college sections. Assist in documenting student performance and maintaining records required for THECB compliance, audits, and program review. Reinforce adherence to approved course syllabi, contact hours, and evaluation methods as required for dual credit instruction. Support alignment with accreditation expectations for dual credit partnerships.
