Quality Manager Waterbury, CT 06704
Full-time Full-time Position Summary:
The Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's Quality Assurance functions, ensuring consistent product quality, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across the organization. This hands-on leadership role manages quality personnel, maintains compliance with ISO 9001, and collaborates cross-functionally to support manufacturing and customer satisfaction goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the Quality Assurance function, including development, implementation, and continuous improvement of all quality policies, procedures, goals, and systems. Manage, mentor, and direct all Quality Assurance team members. Oversee internal and external quality audits and ensure timely responses and corrective actions. Maintain and improve the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure ongoing
ISO 9001
compliance. Serve as the primary liaison for quality-related communication between departments and customers. Drive root cause analysis and corrective/preventative actions through ownership of the CAPA system, ensuring issues are resolved effectively and sustainably. Collaborate with Production and Manufacturing teams to identify and respond to quality issues, implement stop-work procedures, containment efforts, and corrective actions as necessary. Analyze and report on quality metrics, including non-conforming materials, customer complaints, First Pass Yield, On-Time Delivery, and Customer Satisfaction. Ensure timely review and disposition of non-conforming materials. Foster and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external customers.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered. Minimum of 10 years' experience in a manufacturing environment; experience in firearms, defense, or military contracts is a plus. Minimum of 5 years of direct experience managing
ISO 9001
systems, including implementation, training, and auditing. Proven leadership and team management skills in a manufacturing setting. Strong understanding of technical documentation, including blueprints, military specifications, and GD&T. Hands-on experience with inspection methods and tools, including CMMs and Vision Systems. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Lean and Six Sigma experience strongly preferred. Excellent communication skills with the ability to present quality concepts and performance data to all levels of the organization and customers. Familiarity with special processes such as heat treating and plating is a plus.
