Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The QA Coordinator supports the facility's food safety and quality programs by coordinating daily quality assurance activities, maintaining accurate documentation, verifying compliance with company and regulatory requirements, and providing support to Production, Sanitation, Warehouse, and other departments. The position serves as a key point of contact for routine FSQA activities and assists with product inspections, record review, holds, corrective actions, audits, environmental monitoring, and continuous improvement. The QA Coordinator reports directly to the FSQA Manager.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate daily QA activities and provide floor support to ensure food safety, quality, and customer requirements are consistently met.
  • Review production and food safety records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance, including
HACCP/CCP
records, process checks, temperature records, and applicable production documentation.
  • Perform or coordinate product inspections, specification checks, weight checks, label verification, packaging checks, and other quality-control activities.
  • Verify compliance with GMPs, SSOPs, HACCP plans, allergen controls, foreign-material controls, traceability requirements, and company food safety programs.
  • Assist with product hold and release activities, including identification, segregation, documentation, investigation, and disposition follow-up.
  • Coordinate nonconformance investigations and corrective actions with Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, Warehouse, and other departments.
  • Support environmental monitoring and microbiological sampling programs, including sample collection, documentation, result tracking, corrective actions, and follow-up verification.
  • Assist with pre-operational inspections and sanitation verification activities as needed.
  • Maintain and organize FSQA records, forms, logs, specifications, certificates, and supporting documentation to ensure records are complete and audit-ready.
  • Assist with traceability exercises, mock recalls, product recalls, and withdrawal activities.
  • Support internal audits, customer audits, regulatory inspections, third-party certification audits, and completion of corrective-action responses.
  • Assist with investigation and documentation of customer complaints and quality concerns, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Verify labels, product specifications, formulas, and customer requirements are current and accurately communicated to Operations.
  • Support calibration and verification programs for thermometers, scales, metal detectors, and other food safety or quality monitoring devices.
  • Assist with supplier documentation, certificates of analysis, ingredient specifications, and incoming material quality issues as assigned.
  • Provide food safety and quality training or refresher training to employees as directed by the FSQA Manager.
  • Identify recurring quality or food safety issues, trend findings, and communicate opportunities for corrective or preventive action.
  • Communicate significant food safety, quality, labeling, regulatory, or product concerns immediately to the FSQA Manager and appropriate operational leadership.
  • Serve as a resource for production employees and supervisors regarding routine food safety, quality, specification, and documentation questions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the FSQA Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Quality Assurance, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of quality assurance or food safety experience in food manufacturing, meat/poultry processing, prepared foods, or a similar environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, SSOPs, allergen controls, sanitation, traceability, and food manufacturing quality systems.
  • Experience in a USDA-regulated meat or poultry facility is preferred.
  • HACCP certification preferred or ability to obtain certification after hire.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately review records, identify deviations, and maintain organized documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, problem-solving, and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, Warehouse, and management personnel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; experience with electronic quality-management or production systems preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early starts, evenings, weekends, or overtime based on production and audit needs.
PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout production, warehouse, cooler, and sanitation areas.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated, wet, noisy, and temperature-controlled food production environments.
  • Ability to safely work around food-processing equipment, cleaning chemicals, forklifts, and other manufacturing activity.
  • Must comply with all required GMP, hygiene, food safety, and personal protective equipment requirements.
KEY PERFORMANCE MEASURES
Performance will be measured through accurate and timely FSQA documentation, completion of assigned verification activities, food safety and quality compliance, effective hold and corrective-action management, audit readiness, environmental monitoring support, timely communication of issues, and effective cross-functional follow-up.
