Our headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland is supported by an additional production facility in New Richmond, Wisconsin. Our dredging systems are used globally to protect the environment, maintain safe and navigable waterways, and support economic development through underwater resource extraction. Position Overview Ellicott Dredges is seeking a Quality Manager to lead quality execution and performance across CNC machining, fabrication, and dredge assembly operations at our Baltimore facility. This role is responsible for ensuring that all parts, assemblies, and finished dredges meet defined requirements for quality, performance, and reliability. This position combines hands-on inspection responsibilities with ownership of the broader quality system, including
ISO 9001
2015 compliance, in-process quality controls, and supplier quality performance. While this role does not have direct reports, it requires strong leadership through influence, working cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Project Management to drive a culture of quality and continuous improvement. The Quality Manager will play a key role in defining standards, improving processes, and ensuring consistent execution across all phases of production and supply. Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and/or oversee inspection of incoming materials, work-in-process, and final assemblies to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and purchase orders.
  • Conduct visual, dimensional, and functional inspections using appropriate measurement tools and techniques.
  • Review and sign off on travelers, inspection reports, and quality documentation.
  • Identify non-conformances and drive resolution through collaboration with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain.
  • Maintain calibration and proper use of measurement and inspection equipment.
  • Maintain and continuously improve Ellicott's Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with
ISO 9001
2015.
  • Lead internal and external audits, including preparation, execution, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Develop and implement in-process quality controls and inspection plans across machining, fabrication, and assembly, ensuring final dredge builds meet defined requirements prior to delivery.
  • Partner with Engineering and Project Management to define quality standards, acceptance criteria, and inspection requirements for custom builds.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for quality issues.
  • Lead supplier quality performance, including evaluation, monitoring, and improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct vendor visits, audits, and performance reviews to ensure compliance with Ellicott standards.
  • Promote a culture of quality ownership across all departments through training, communication, and cross-functional collaboration. Qualifications Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or certification preferred.
  • 5-10+ years of experience in manufacturing quality, inspection, or related field.
  • Experience in heavy equipment, industrial manufacturing, or engineered-to-order environments is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working within an
ISO 9001
quality system strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience in a Lean manufacturing environment, with demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement, standard work, and process discipline across operations. Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of quality inspection methods and measurement techniques, including the use of precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and thread gauges.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications, including GD&T.
  • Proven ability to lead through influence across multiple functions without direct authority.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and corrective action development.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with shop floor teams, engineers, and suppliers.
  • High attention to detail with a strong commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with ERP or manufacturing systems preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations Quality certifications (e.g., ASQ
CQI, CQA
) preferred but not required. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, speak, and hear. Regular activities include walking; reaching with hands and arms; climbing or balancing; and stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Work may occasionally occur in confined spaces and at heights up to 20 ft. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 lb and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lb. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
