Job Description

Assistant Quality Manager Quality Assurance / Quality Control Position Summary The Assistant Quality Manager supports the Quality Manager in overseeing all quality assurance and quality control activities within a large-scale metal fabrication and manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ensuring products meet customer specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements throughout the production process. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in metal fabrication, welding processes, machining, structural steel manufacturing, and quality management systems, with a strong commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Management & Compliance Assist in managing the company's Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001 and applicable industry standards. Ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements. Support quality audits, including customer, supplier, and third-party audits. Monitor effectiveness of quality processes and recommend improvements.
Inspection & Quality Control:
Supervise incoming, in-process, and final inspections of fabricated metal products. Review inspection reports, material certifications, weld documentation, and quality records. Verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, welding procedures, and customer requirements. Oversee dimensional inspections utilizing measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, CMMs, laser trackers, and other precision instruments. Support non-destructive testing (NDT) activities, including visual, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and dye penetrant inspections.
Production Quality Support:
Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Operations teams to resolve quality issues. Provide technical guidance regarding welding quality, fabrication processes, material specifications, and defect prevention. Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action implementation. Monitor production processes to reduce scrap, rework, and customer complaints.
Continuous Improvement:
Lead and support corrective and preventive action (CAPA) programs. Utilize Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies to drive quality improvements. Analyze quality data and performance metrics to identify trends and opportunities. Develop action plans to improve product quality and operational efficiency. Team Leadership Assist in supervising quality inspectors, technicians, and auditors. Provide training on quality standards, inspection techniques, and quality procedures. Support employee development and performance management initiatives. Foster a culture of quality awareness throughout the organization. Customer & Supplier Quality Address customer quality concerns and support complaint resolution efforts. Participate in customer meetings related to quality performance and improvement initiatives. Evaluate supplier quality performance and assist with supplier corrective actions. Review supplier certifications, inspection reports, and quality documentation. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. Minimum of 5 years of quality experience in large metal fabrication, structural steel, heavy manufacturing, pressure vessels, or related industries. Minimum of 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience in a quality-focused role. Strong understanding of fabrication processes including: Structural steel fabrication Attention to detail Data analysis and reporting Continuous improvement mindset Decision-making and conflict resolution Organizational and project management skills
Pay:
$80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
