Job Description
The Director of Distance Education provides strategic leadership for the development, delivery, management, quality assurance, and continuous improvement of online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses and programs. This position leads the planning and implementation of distance education initiatives, collaborates with faculty and academic leadership, and promotes innovative, accessible, and student-centered approaches to online learning. The Director oversees distance education operations, online course quality, instructional design support, and compliance with institutional, state, and federal requirements specific to distance education. The position supports faculty in effective online course development and delivery, establishes quality standards and processes, monitors program effectiveness, and identifies opportunities to enhance the overall distance learning experience through continuous assessment, collaboration, and improvement. This position will be located on either Midlands Technical College Beltline or Airport Campus. Minimum and Additional Requirements A Master's degree in education or related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible related work experience. Preferred Qualifications At least two (2) to four (4) years of progressive leadership experience related to distance education, online learning, instructional design, or academic technology, with demonstrated leadership in course quality and online program development. Experience with accreditation and regulatory requirements related to distance education, accessibility, state authorization, and online learning quality assurance. Supervisory experience and demonstrated ability to collaborate across academic and administrative units. Ability to lead distance education initiatives, support online program development, develop quality assurance processes, analyze data for continuous improvement, and manage multiple priorities.
