Job Description - Quality Manager Position Summary We are seeking a Quality Manager to lead the quality function in our precision machine shop, specializing in small parts, fittings, and flanges. This role is hands-on, people-oriented, and focused on ensuring consistent product quality while supporting the shop floor team in problem solving and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will be approachable, effective at managing and developing people, and proactive in preventing quality issues. Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & People Management
- Supervise and develop the quality team, including inspectors and technicians.
- Build strong working relationships with production staff and management.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and pride in quality. Quality Operations
- Oversee daily inspection and testing of incoming material, in-process parts, and finished products.
- Ensure machining tolerances and customer specifications are consistently met.
- Maintain calibration, measurement, and quality records.
- Support shop floor operators with training and guidance on quality standards. Customer & Supplier Quality
- Serve as the point of contact for customer quality concerns.
- Conduct root cause analysis and coordinate corrective actions for complaints.
- Work with suppliers to address material issues when needed. Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
- Lead or support problem-solving activities (5-Why, corrective actions, containment).
- Identify and reduce sources of scrap, rework, and defects.
- Recommend process improvements in partnership with operations and engineering. Quality System Support
- Maintain quality procedures, documentation, and compliance with
ISO 9001
standards.
- Prepare for and support customer or internal audits. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
- 3-5 years of experience in a quality leadership role, ideally in machining or precision manufacturing.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate a team.
- Hands-on knowledge of blueprint reading, GD&T, and machining tolerances.
- Familiarity with
ISO 9001
quality systems; experience with AS9100 a plus.
- Practical knowledge of problem-solving tools (5-Why, Pareto, corrective actions).
- Able to balance shop floor presence with documentation and customer interaction.
