JOB SUMMARY
The Quality Control Technician is an entry level role, responsible for performing standard daily Quality Control tests to determine if Quality Systems are adequate for food products that are produced each day.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Records and compiles documentation and reports each day. Performs checks on manufacturing systems including scale calibrations, weight checks, metal detection tests, chemical concentration verification, and work area inspections. Performs checks on product quality, to ensure compliance with set specifications such as weight, smell, color, taste, texture and other product attributes. Assist with water, air quality, and microbiological testing (ATP). Maintains documentation and records testing results as required by governing agencies. Tastes or smells food products to ensure that flavors meet specifications or to select samples with specific characteristics. Monitors and documents temperatures of products and processes. Helps managers in quality control and food safety, as required. Promotes quality standards and food safety practices through interactions with production staff. Takes immediate corrective action when dealing with Food Safety and Food Quality issues and reports these issues to the Department Manager or Food Safety Manager for further action, if required.
QUALIFYING SKILLS REQUIREMENT
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred Experience in the food industry with knowledge and skills in quality control of food products is desired. Must have good communication skills both oral and written to convey information or ideas effectively and the ability to demonstrate active listening skills. Must have ability to learn the various attributes specific for each product/process. Must have the ability to evaluate the quality of products and processes. Determine root cause for non-compliances and provide potential solutions to issues that may arise. Must have good interpersonal relationships to be able to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships across the manufacturing and production areas. Be able to deal calmly and effectively with high stress situations. Must have experience in motivating, and encouraging employees and build mutual trust, respect and cooperation among team members. Must also have some training/instructional experience appropriate to provide guidance to employees. Must have good time management skills. Must have a good working knowledge and skills in computers Excel, Outlook, Internet browsing and practical application of mathematics to solve problems. Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record. Must be able to walk up and down stairs as well as walk between buildings. Must be able to distinguish color and not have food allergies related to products made at our facilities.
