QUALITY INSPECTOR
 Job Description The Quality Inspector inspects machined, sheet metal, and welded parts to verify correct materials, high-quality workmanship, dimensional accuracy, and proper functionality. This role involves moderate physical activity, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods, while performing in-process, receiving, and final inspections in a manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Inspect machined parts, sheet metal parts, and welded parts to confirm proper material, workmanship, dimensional accuracy, and functional performance. Work independently from blueprints to plan and perform inspections with minimal supervision. Set up inspections on a surface plate using common inspection equipment and tools. Operate hardness testing machines to verify material properties and document results. Operate an optical comparator to inspect and verify part dimensions and geometry. Perform receiving inspections on incoming materials and components and complete all associated documentation. Conduct first article inspections and prepare required inspection records. Perform in-process inspections during manufacturing to ensure parts meet specifications at each stage. Perform final inspections on completed parts and assemblies prior to shipment. Inspect parts received from outside processing and complete all related paperwork. Report nonconforming conditions by preparing and submitting rejection notices. Use measuring tools, including pi tapes and other precision instruments, to inspect round and complex parts. Apply basic GD&T principles during inspections to evaluate form, fit, and function. Use basic shop math to support inspection setup and measurement calculations. Read and interpret customer and industry specifications to ensure compliance. Operate a forklift safely when required to move materials or parts for inspection. Use basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, to enter data, complete forms, and maintain inspection records. Maintain organization of inspection work, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize assignments effectively. Perform visual inspections that require close-up work and small print reading, and successfully pass required eye examinations. Perform all other duties as assigned or directed to support quality and production needs. Essential Skills Minimum of three years of recent experience in a job shop manufacturing environment. Demonstrated ability to read and work independently from blueprints. Hands-on experience using measuring tools and common inspection equipment. Basic knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, welding processes, and machining operations. Basic blueprint reading skills, including familiarity with GD&T concepts. Ability to perform basic shop math functions for inspection setups and measurements. Ability to read and understand customer and industry specifications. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. High attention to detail and accuracy in inspection and documentation. Willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team. Ability to drive and operate a forklift safely. Basic computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office products. Capability to perform in-process, receiving, and final inspections. Ability to pass a vision/eye test for close-up and detailed visual inspection work. Manufacturing experience, with aerospace experience under AS9100 standards considered a significant advantage. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating a coordinate measuring machine (CMM), especially with a hexagon scanning arm, is a plus. Experience using pi tapes for measuring round parts is highly desirable. Additional exposure to GD&T beyond basic knowledge is beneficial. Prior experience in quality control or inspection roles in manufacturing environments. Comfort working with hardness testing equipment and optical comparators. Ability to adapt to different part types and processes, including machined, sheet metal, and welded components. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based in a manufacturing facility focused on machined, sheet metal, and welded components. The work requires moderate physical activity, including lifting, bending, and prolonged standing at inspection stations. You will use a variety of inspection technologies and equipment, such as surface plates, common measuring tools, hardness testing machines, optical comparators, and potentially CMM equipment and hexagon scanning arms. Work also involves frequent use of pi tapes for round parts and close-up visual inspections that require reading small print and detailed features. Training takes place on first shift, Monday through Friday, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with training duration depending on learning pace and expected to last at least four months. After training, the regular schedule is second shift, Monday through Friday, from 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The environment is structured, organized, and team-oriented, with an emphasis on safety, quality, and adherence to procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of El Cajon, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
