intends to fill this critical shop quality position within 30 days. The Opportunity NMI Industrial Holdings is seeking an experienced Quality Control Inspector / Certified Welding Inspector to own daily quality control in our Sacramento steel fabrication shop. This is a hands on inspection role that reports to the COO and operates independently from production supervision. The Inspector will verify compliance with drawings, specifications, NMI's Quality Management System, AISC requirements, AWS welding codes, coating requirements, and applicable building codes. This person will be responsible for obtaining and maintaining NMI's LADBS Approved Fabricator certification and must prepare for, take, and pass the required LADBS test or qualification assessment. What You Will Do Perform receiving, in process, hold point, and final inspections, including dimensions, layout, fit up, material identification, connections, weld preparation, completed welds, and tolerances. Perform welding inspection to applicable codes and maintain WPS, PQR, welder qualification, and continuity records. Coordinate welder testing, nondestructive examination, outside inspections, and corrective actions. Inspect surface preparation, ambient conditions, coating materials, wet film thickness, dry film thickness, coverage, and repair work. Maintain material traceability, MTRs, Certificates of Conformance, inspection reports, nonconformance reports, and closeout documentation. Support NMI's AISC Quality Management System, audits, management reviews, and corrective actions. Coordinate LADBS, testing, shop inspections, audits, project notifications, product identification, documentation, and renewals. Required Qualifications Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification. This is mandatory. Minimum five years of quality control, welding inspection, or shop inspection experience in structural steel or miscellaneous metal fabrication. Strong working knowledge of AWS D1.1, structural steel fabrication, and AISC Certified Fabricator requirements. Working knowledge of the applicable Los Angeles Building Code, or the ability to become proficient quickly and pass the required LADBS test or qualification assessment. Ability to read drawings, welding symbols, specifications, and contract documents and to work with WPS, PQR, welder qualifications, and material traceability. Experience with dimensional inspection and painted or coated structural steel. Ability to make independent quality decisions, document deficiencies, and require corrective action. Strong documentation, communication, organization, and computer skills. Preferred Qualifications Previous quality control responsibility for an AISC Certified Fabricator. Experience with LADBS Approved Fabricator requirements, shop inspections. AMPP coating inspection certification or equivalent formal training. Experience with other AWS codes, high strength bolting.
