McNamara, Elizabeth UConn Health is searching for a Registered Nurse Patient Relations Quality Assurance Specialist. This position is accountable for coordinating patient complaints and grievances, monitoring patient experience performance measures and facilitating compliance with regulatory requirements. This position will work in the Office of Patient Experience located in Farmington, CT
SCHEDULE
Full time, 40 hours per week, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 30-minute unpaid meal break.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May perform lead/supervisory responsibilities as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
: Works under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Establishes and maintains effective, up-to-date data management and filing systems for quality assurance records; designs, compiles designated reports to reflect unit based and department wide activities; chairs meetings; abstracts core measures concurrent to care and retrospectively for
JCAHO/CMS
; abstracts and analyzes data to identify trends and issues and takes appropriate action; promulgates standards for unit quality assurance activities and reporting; provides clinically based concurrent and retrospective review of inpatient medical records to evaluate documentation for compliance with external and internal performance and quality measurement requirements; assesses effectiveness of plans and activities; makes recommendations for change; coordinates responses to regulatory agencies; interfaces with other disciplines to manage selected issues and develop efficient reporting systems to increase compliance with core measures; maintains awareness of current JCAHO and new trends in quality assurance; communicates with physicians to adherence to core measure protocols; serves as a consultant regarding Q.A. issues; educates staff and physicians to core measurement criteria, documentation and best practice goals; identifies opportunities for research indicated by Q. A. findings; participates in designing and/or conducting relevant research; performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Knowledge of quality assurance methods, trends and issues; considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and current trends in the relevant QA area; knowledge of and ability to apply relevant State and Federal regulations; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; computer skills; ability to analyze, develop, implement Q. A. data and core measures.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
GENERAL
EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in nursing and four (4) years experience.
SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been gained through active participation in Quality Assurance activities.
SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
A Master's degree may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of experience.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS 2
years of experience from a closely related role as a Nurse Leader, Quality Assurance, Patient Advocate, Patient Relations, Patient Experience representative or specialist. Experience investigating, documenting, and resolving patient and family complaints and grievances in a healthcare setting. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and organizational standards related to patient rights, complaints, and grievances. Ability to identify and appropriately escalate concerns involving potential clinical, legal, regulatory, ethical, or reputational risk. Experience reviewing and interpreting electronic medical records and clinical documentation as part of complaint or grievance investigations. Experience using complaint, quality, patient safety, or similar healthcare reporting systems for case management and documentation. Experience preparing professional written responses and formal grievance correspondence for patients and families. Ability to identify complaint and grievance trends and recommend opportunities for quality, safety, and patient experience improvement. Experience collaborating with clinical and operational teams to resolve complex patient concerns and support process improvement. Experience providing guidance or education to healthcare staff on service recovery, complaint prevention, and effective resolution of patient and family concerns.
