Explore a career with A & Associates, one of the leading providers for temporary, temp-to-hire, permanent placement services and security guard services Scale Operator Recycling & Landfill Operations Job Summary The Scale Operator is responsible for accurately weighing and documenting all inbound and outbound vehicles at the recycling and landfill facility. This position serves as the first point of contact for customers, commercial haulers, and vendors, ensuring efficient scale operations, accurate recordkeeping, and exceptional customer service while maintaining compliance with company policies and environmental regulations. Key Responsibilities Operate computerized truck scale systems to accurately weigh incoming and outgoing vehicles. Verify customer accounts, material types, vehicle information, and transaction details. Issue scale tickets, receipts, invoices, and other required documentation. Collect payments and process cash, credit card, and account transactions when applicable. Maintain accurate records of all scale transactions and daily reports. Communicate with landfill spotters, equipment operators, dispatchers, and management to coordinate site traffic and material flow. Answer incoming phone calls, respond to customer inquiries, and assist visitors professionally. Direct customers and commercial haulers to the appropriate disposal or recycling locations. Inspect and verify load information while reporting discrepancies or prohibited materials to management. Perform data entry and maintain customer information within company software systems. Prepare daily reconciliation reports, transaction summaries, and administrative paperwork. Maintain organized files and ensure all documentation is completed accurately and timely. Assist with general office administrative duties, including filing, scanning, and correspondence. Monitor compliance with company policies, environmental regulations, and safety procedures. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional scale house environment. Support other operational and administrative functions as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Previous experience in scale operations, customer service, administrative support, or waste and recycling operations preferred. Strong computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office and data entry software. Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Cash handling and invoicing experience is preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Ability to work in an office located within an active recycling and landfill environment. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, drivers, and operations personnel throughout the day. Work Environment This position works primarily in the scale house at an active recycling and landfill facility. The Scale Operator regularly interacts with commercial drivers, customers, vendors, and plant personnel while supporting daily landfill operations. The role requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions, high transaction volumes, and adherence to strict safety and environmental compliance standards.
