Quality TechnicianJob Description The Quality Technician performs advanced quality assurance functions in a manufacturing environment, supporting ongoing production, new product launches, and customer requirements. This role focuses on precision inspection, PPAP support, ISO-related activities, and advanced CMM and fixture inspections. The Quality Technician leads problem-solving efforts, drives advanced data collection, and takes ownership of quality performance for assigned product lines while working closely with production teams and interacting with customers as needed. Responsibilities
+ Perform hands-on inspection of parts, assemblies, and fixtures using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
+ Read and interpret engineering prints, including weld symbols and GD&T, to accurately determine measurements, tolerances, and inspection requirements.
+ Conduct advanced dimensional inspections using CMM equipment for complex parts, assemblies, and fixtures when required.
+ Support PPAP submissions and customer approval processes by preparing inspection data, documentation, and related quality records.
+ Execute ISO-related quality activities, including documentation, adherence to procedures, and participation in audits as needed.
+ Lead problem-solving efforts for assigned product lines by identifying quality issues, performing root cause analysis, and supporting corrective and preventive actions.
+ Collect, analyze, and report quality data to monitor product performance and drive continuous improvement.
+ Work closely with manufacturing floor teams, answering operator questions and providing guidance on quality requirements, inspection methods, and measurement techniques.
+ Verify that production parts meet specified tolerances and quality standards, and document inspection results accurately and completely.
+ Support new product launches by participating in first article inspections, capability studies, and validation of inspection methods and fixtures.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve customer concerns and ensure that products meet customer specifications and expectations.
+ Maintain inspection tools, gages, and equipment in proper working condition and ensure they are used correctly and consistently.
+ Follow established quality control procedures and contribute to the development and improvement of inspection processes and work instructions. Essential Skills + 14 years of hands-on inspection experience using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges, and related precision measuring tools.
+ Strong print reading skills, including basic to mid-complexity drawings, weld symbols, and GD&T, with the ability to accurately determine and calculate measurements and tolerances.
+ Strong shop math proficiency, including metric and standard conversions, fractions to decimals, tolerance calculations, and basic trigonometry.
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Formal quality control (QC) training through school or on-the-job experience.
+ Manufacturing background with direct exposure to production and quality inspection activities.
+ Experience using gages and inspection tools in a production or assembly environment.
+ Familiarity with quality assurance and quality control principles and practices.
+ Ability to work hands-on with manufacturing floor teams and effectively communicate with operators about quality requirements.
+ Attention to detail and accuracy when performing measurements, inspections, and documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience supporting PPAP submissions and customer approval processes.
+ CMM operation experience for complex part, assembly, or fixture inspection.
+ Experience with ISO-related quality activities and documentation.
+ Exposure to production environments involving assembly and quality checks.
+ Demonstrated ability to participate in or lead problem-solving and root cause analysis activities.
+ Interest in career growth into more advanced technical or engineering roles.
+ Ability to work with quality inspection documentation, including inspection reports, control plans, and related records. Work Environment This position operates in a manufacturing environment where the Quality Technician works closely with the production floor and assembly operations. The role involves frequent use of precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges, and various gages, as well as potential use of CMM equipment for complex inspections. The schedule includes a first-shift assignment, with opportunities for overtime that can provide additional earnings. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.50 - $24.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
