Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a dedicated Quality Control Lead Specialist with at least 5 or more years of quality control experience in shipbuilding, marine, or heavy industrial construction. The candidate will oversee daily quality control inspection activities at the yard, leading a team of QC inspectors to ensure all work meets contract specifications, regulatory requirements, and company quality standards.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 5 or more years of quality control experience in shipbuilding, marine, or heavy industrial construction Working knowledge of welding inspection requirements, including AWS D1.1 or equivalent standards Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP), formerly NACE, Coating Inspector certification preferred Prior leadership or lead experience preferred Familiarity with ABS rules and USCG regulations SKILLS Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications Strong written and verbal communication skills
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead, mentor, and coordinate the activities of QC inspectors across assigned projects Perform and oversee inspections, including structural fit-up, welding, dimensional checks, and coating application Manage hold-point and witness-point inspections for the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), the United States Coast Guard (USCG), and customer representatives Review work packages, drawings, and specifications to verify that inspection requirements are clearly defined and understood Generate and review inspection reports, test records, and nonconformance reports; drive corrective actions through closure Coordinate with Production, Engineering, and Planning to schedule inspections and minimize delays Ensure compliance with the project Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) Support trials, test events, and final acceptance activities
