About the Role As the CMM / Metrology Supervisor, you will provide technical leadership and oversight for all dimensional inspection and metrology operations on the production floor. Reporting to the Quality Manager, you will be instrumental in maintaining inspection discipline, training staff, and ensuring that our manufacturing quality processes are executed consistently. This role requires a balance of hands-on technical expertise and effective leadership to guide employee development, standardize inspection workflows, and provide essential quality support to our manufacturing and machining teams. Key Responsibilities CMM & Inspection Oversight Manage the daily workflow of manufacturing floor CMMs and related inspection tasks. Optimize inspection schedules to ensure production remains on track and customer delivery deadlines are met. Validate and maintain all inspection programs to ensure they are executed correctly. Confirm that dimensional results align with customer specifications and technical drawings. Review and authorize first article, in-process, and final inspection documentation. Collaborate with engineering, machining, and quality departments to resolve dimensional discrepancies. Help maintain a reliable and accurate calibration status for all inspection tools. Manufacturing Floor Quality Support Serve as the primary technical resource for production staff regarding quality inquiries. Promote uniform interpretation of GD&T, prints, and customer standards across the shop floor. Oversee adherence to established inspection procedures throughout the manufacturing area. Assist in containment efforts and the development of corrective actions for dimensional nonconformances. Support root cause analysis to help prevent future quality issues. Maintain high standards of accuracy and traceability in all inspection records. Training & Employee Development Instruct manufacturing personnel on essential quality topics, including: In-process measurement techniques Correct operation of measuring tools Fundamentals of blueprint reading and GD&T Documentation standards for inspections General quality expectations Create standardized work instructions and training materials for inspection processes. Mentor team members to foster greater measurement competency and individual accountability. Assess the skill levels of the team to identify and address training gaps. Process Improvement Refine inspection workflows to enhance overall efficiency and consistency. Support the integration of robust quality systems and process controls. Identify opportunities to minimize recurring dimensional errors and boost process capability. Partner with manufacturing leadership to encourage greater quality ownership on the floor. Contribute to the creation of visual inspection standards and quality systems. Leadership Expectations Demonstrate technical competence, urgency, and accountability to set a positive example. Required Qualifications At least 5 years of experience in dimensional inspection and CMM programming within precision manufacturing. Advanced proficiency in blueprint interpretation and GD&T. Experience utilizing CMM software such as Calypso or PC-DMIS. Deep understanding of various inspection methods and machining processes. Expertise in using precision measurement tools, including: Micrometers Bore gages Height gages Surface plates Optical comparators Portable CMM or probing systems Demonstrated ability to mentor and train staff effectively. Strong communication and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in a supervisory or team lead capacity. Background in high-precision industries like medical, defense, or aerospace. Familiarity with ISO or AS9100 quality standards. Experience with SPC methods and first article inspections.
