POSITION TITLE

Quality Inspector Summary:

This position reports to the Quality Manager and will perform hardness, conductivity, and tensile testing of processed hardware in accordance with established work orders, customer specifications, and Quality Management System requirements, and will accurately record and report the results. Has the responsibility and authority to carry out assigned tasks.

Essential Functions:

1. Perform hardness testing inspection on received, in-process, and end items as assigned. 2. Perform electrical conductivity testing on aluminum alloy hardware as required. 3. Perform tensile testing of test specimens and determine and report the resulting mechanical properties. 4. Perform testing in accordance with ASTM E18, E10, E1004, E8/E8M, and customer specifications. 5. Prepare and identify test specimens and locate test points in accordance with the work order or specification. 6. Verify part identification and quantity against the work order prior to testing. 7. Verify that test equipment is within calibration and perform required verification checks before use. 8. Record test results accurately and maintain inspection records and documentation as required. 9. Accept items that meet the requirements and report results that do not conform to Quality leadership. 10. Initiate or assist with non-conformance reports on hardware that does not meet requirements. 11. Support internal, customer, and Nadcap audits related to testing and the associated records. 12. Maintain a clean and organized work area. 13. Always maintain confidentiality. 14. Assist other quality and production areas as needed.

Quality Authority:

Accountable for the accuracy and integrity of test results and the associated records. Has the authority to accept hardware that meets requirements and to place hardware on hold when test results do not conform.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Read and interpret work orders and specifications to determine required test methods and limits. 2. Ability to use hardness testing equipment including Rockwell, superficial, and Brinell testers, eddy current conductivity meters, and tensile testing equipment and extensometers. 3. Understanding of hardness scale conversions and when conversion is and is not permitted. 4. Determine and report tensile properties including tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation. 5. Basic understanding of heat treating processes and how they affect test results. 6. Speak, read and write English, and effectively communicate with all departments. 7. Basic computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None Working Conditions:

This position takes place in a normal inspection/laboratory environment and requires regular communication with the shop floor as deemed necessary. Requires use of personal protective equipment during tensile testing and specimen handling.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Ability to lift 30 lbs. 3. Ability to become qualified in the required test methods in accordance with the Quality Management System. 4. The following vision in at least one eye, either corrected or uncorrected: Snellen 14/18 (20/25), Jaeger 2 at 14 inches or greater, or Ortho-Rated 8 or equivalent and shall be capable of adequately distinguishing and differentiating colors. Will be tested every 12 months.
