Quality Inspector (2nd Shift) Job Description This role focuses on ensuring that automotive components consistently meet established quality standards through precise inspection, measurement, and documentation. The position is assigned to 2nd shift and includes 1-2 weeks of training on 1st shift. You will work approximately 45-50 hours per week, including mandatory overtime on 1-2 weekends per month, while supporting a high-volume stamping environment with significant work from major automotive manufacturers. Responsibilities Establish and maintain quality standards for automotive products produced in a high-volume stamping environment. Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to verify that operations and finished parts meet production and quality standards. Inspect and test finished products using hand tools, gauges, micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments. Document defects, nonconformances, and any necessary adjustments in a clear and accurate manner. Remove products that do not meet production standards and ensure they are properly segregated from acceptable parts. Recommend strategies and corrective actions to improve product quality and reduce defects. Accept or reject finished products based on inspection results and established criteria. Discuss inspection findings and quality issues with the production team to drive continuous improvement. Perform quality checks throughout the production process to ensure consistency and compliance with customer requirements. Handle heavy lifting and pulling of parts and materials up to approximately 30 pounds as part of inspection activities. Support quality control activities across multiple buildings and production areas as needed. Essential Skills 2-5 years of experience in quality inspection, specifically within the steel or metal stamping industry. Hands-on experience with quality control and inspection of parts in an automotive or metal fabrication environment. Proficiency using gauges, micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments for dimensional inspection. Strong blueprint reading skills to verify part dimensions and specifications. Demonstrated ability to perform detailed quality checks and document inspection results accurately. Ability to identify defects and nonconformances and make sound accept/reject decisions. Capability to perform heavy lifting and pulling of up to approximately 30 pounds on a regular basis. Comfort working in a fast-paced production setting with overtime requirements, including some weekends. Effective communication skills to collaborate with production teams and convey inspection findings clearly. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in the metal stamping industry beyond minimum requirements. Prior Experience working in welding environments, such as exposure to MIG welding operations. Familiarity with progressive presses and automated forming equipment. Understanding of automotive industry quality expectations and standards. This is a typical stamping facility that can be loud and industrial, with conditions that may not be spotless but remain functional and production-oriented. The position is primarily on 2nd shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with initial training on 1st shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Employees can expect to work approximately 45-50 hours per week with mandatory overtime on 1-2 weekends per month. The work involves frequent use of hand tools, gauges, micrometers, and calipers, as well as regular handling and movement of parts weighing up to about 30 pounds in an active manufacturing setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mount Clemens, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $20.00/hr.
