As a Quality Specialist supporting supplier quality acceptance for bioprocessing equipment and automation products. This role helps ensure supplier-provided materials, components, fabricated assemblies, and equipment meet approved drawings, specifications, purchase requirements, and quality standards before acceptance and use. You will perform and document supplier acceptance activities, identify nonconforming conditions, support supplier corrective actions, and partner with suppliers and internal teams to drive consistent product quality and supplier performance.
What will you do? Supplier Quality Acceptance & Inspection Perform supplier quality acceptance activities at supplier sites and/or receiving locations with minimal supervision using approved drawings, specifications, purchase requirements, inspection plans, and defined acceptance criteria. Inspect mechanical and electrical components and assemblies, including stainless-steel vessels, fabricated hardware, electrical enclosures, controllers, wiring, welds, surface finishes, dimensions, and workmanship. Operate appropriate inspection and measurement equipment to verify dimensions, surface finish, weld quality, electrical connections, and other defined product characteristics. Support source inspection, receiving acceptance, in-process verification, and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) , Hardware Acceptance Testing, activities to confirm conformance before shipment, receipt, or release. Supplier Documentation & Acceptance Records Review supplier documentation and objective evidence required for acceptance, including certificates, inspection records, material documentation, calibration records, test reports, and other applicable quality records. Document inspection and acceptance results in reports, logs, ERP/QMS records, and other required systems, ensuring records are accurate, complete, and traceable. Review engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, and quality requirements for accuracy, completeness, and inspectability before or during supplier acceptance activities. Clearly communicate acceptance status, discrepancies, deviations, and required follow-up to suppliers and internal stakeholders. Nonconformance & Supplier Corrective Action Support Identify and document nonconforming conditions when supplier products, processes, or records do not meet defined acceptance requirements. Initiate or support nonconformance records and supplier corrective action activities, including containment, evidence collection, follow-up, and verification of completed actions. Support disposition activities by providing objective inspection evidence and clearly identifying the requirement that was not met. Escalate significant, recurring, or potentially systemic supplier quality issues to Supplier Quality and Quality management as appropriate. Cross-Functional Supplier Quality Support Collaborate with Supplier Quality, Engineering, Operations, Procurement, Project teams, and suppliers to resolve quality issues, clarify requirements, and support timely product acceptance. Review supplier work and manufacturing progress against approved requirements and identify conditions that may affect product quality, acceptance, or delivery. Provide inspection findings and technical input to support supplier quality reviews, issue resolution, and quality-related project decisions. Maintain professional and effective communication with suppliers while supporting practical, compliant, and timely resolution of quality issues. Supplier Performance & Continuous Improvement Track recurring inspection findings and defect trends and provide data to Supplier Quality for supplier performance monitoring and improvement activities. Support improvements to inspection methods, acceptance criteria, checklists, work instructions, and quality records based on lessons learned and recurring issues. Promote consistent application of approved inspection methods, acceptance criteria, and documentation practices across supplier quality acceptance activities. Safety & Compliance Perform inspection, acceptance, and validation activities in accordance with applicable Thermo Fisher Scientific and supplier environmental, health, safety, and quality requirements. Use required PPE and safe work practices while working in manufacturing, fabrication, receiving, and supplier environments.
Experience:
Three (3) years of related experience in supplier quality, quality inspection, incoming inspection, source inspection, manufacturing quality, validation, or a similar role in a mechanical and/or electrical manufacturing environment. Working knowledge of supplier quality acceptance practices, including inspection against drawings/specifications, review of supplier quality documentation, acceptance/rejection decisions, and documentation of objective evidence. Experience working directly with suppliers or fabricators to verify product conformance and communicate nonconformances is strongly preferred. Experience or familiarity with inspection procedures, sampling/acceptance criteria, nonconformance processes, and supplier corrective action activities. Familiarity with ERP systems, electronic Quality Management Systems (eQMS), and Document Control systems. Experience with stainless-steel fabrication, welds, surface finishes, and equipment used in pharmaceutical, bioprocessing, food, cosmetic, or other regulated manufacturing environments is preferred. Experience using inspection tools such as tape measures, calipers, micrometers, profilometers, optical tachometers, and other hand or measurement tools as applicable. Knowledge of and ability to interpret engineering drawings, quality specifications, tolerances/GD&T, bills of material, and supplier acceptance requirements. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Demonstrated ability to make objective, risk-based quality acceptance decisions and clearly communicate the basis for acceptance, rejection, or escalation. Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings, specifications, inspection plans, and acceptance criteria. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in completing quality records, inspection reports, and traceability documentation. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and internal stakeholders and work toward timely, practical resolution of quality issues. Ability to recognize nonconforming conditions, document clear evidence, and support appropriate containment, disposition, and corrective action processes. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to effectively use laptops, tablets, and mobile devices in manufacturing and supplier environments. Understanding of proper PPE, safe work practices, and quality system requirements in manufacturing environments; technical or engineering background preferred. Physical Abilities Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 35 lbs. Ability to work in manufacturing and metal fabricator environments. Ability to frequently bend, kneel, access equipment at floor level, and climb ladders as required for inspection activities. Ability to travel via plane and car to supplier sites throughout North America. Ability to stand for extended periods of time while performing inspections and acceptance activities. Ability to safely handle and position inspection tools or equipment required to evaluate large fabricated assemblies. Ability to effectively use computer-based software and hardware on laptops, tablets, and mobile devices.
