CMM ProgrammerPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced CMM Programmer to develop, validate, and maintain coordinate measuring machine (CMM) programs and inspection processes for precision components primarily in the medical device sector. The CMM Programmer will translate engineering drawings and GD&T requirements into reliable inspection routines, support production through CMM operations and maintenance activities, and ensure measurement processes meet ISO 13485 and FDA quality expectations.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, test, and optimize CMM programs for complex, high-precision parts using PC-DMIS, Zeiss CALYPSO, or equivalent software.
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T callouts to create inspection plans and measurement routines.
Execute CMM inspections, collect dimensional data, and analyze results to verify part conformity to specifications.
Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve nonconformances and implement corrective actions.
Maintain and calibrate CMM equipment; perform routine maintenance and coordinate service/repair as needed to ensure consistent performance.
Create and maintain inspection documentation, including first article inspections (FAI), control plans, and standard operating procedures to meet ISO 13485 and FDA record requirements.
Train operators and quality personnel on CMM operation, measurement techniques, and best practices for precision measuring.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying measurement process improvements, reducing inspection cycle time, and improving measurement reliability.
Ensure measurement system analysis (MSA) and gauge R&R studies are completed and acted upon to improve measurement confidence.
Participate in design reviews to provide manufacturability and inspectability feedback early in product development.
Qualifications3+ years of hands-on CMM programming and operation experience in a production environment; experience in the medical device industry strongly preferred.
Proficient with CMM programming software such as PC-DMIS, Zeiss CALYPSO, or equivalent; experience with SolidWorks for model-based inspection is a plus.
Strong knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, and geometric tolerancing practices.
Experience with precision measuring equipment and techniques, including tactile and non-contact probing, micrometers, calipers, and surface plates.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements and quality systems for medical devices, including ISO 13485 and FDA expectations.
Experience performing measurement system analysis (MSA), gauge R&R, SPC, and inspection plan development.
Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
Strong documentation skills and experience producing inspection reports, FAIs, and procedure documentation.
Demonstrated ability to perform preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting on CMM hardware and fixturing.
