Summary:
The quality control technician is responsible for verifying and assisting with daily changeover and operations within the production floor and quality lab, ensuring that manufacturing and packaging are maintaining SQF, Kosher, GMP and FDA standards. This position works cross-finally with QA/QC lab, operations, production, customer service and shipping & receiving.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Completes appropriate documentation to support testing procedures.
- Works with production teams to ensure safe quality product is being made and packaged. Communicate when deviations occur.
- Monitors laboratory equipment maintenance schedules; ensures laboratory equipment is maintained in accordance with established schedules, GMP requirements and SOPs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by director.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Sampling and retains: 1. Compare and test retains and approves blends for the second shift blending team. 2. Assisting with product holds, investigations and re-testing when applicable. 3. Collect larger samples for blends that require special microbiological testing. Properly documenting and completing paperwork to accompany samples to send to third party labs. 4. Observe and monitor sampling procedures and techniques from the blender operators. 5. Use computer systems NAV to approve blends and release into packing. 6. Maintaining a clean and composed retain library, equipment and lab supplies. Plant Inspections 1. Monitor ingredient storage and ensure proper compliance is being met with organic and allergen programs. Verifying all packaging is closed and all ingredients are being properly stored. 2. Monitor and implement cGMPs on plant floor. Work with QA technician to coordinate internal audit meetings cross-functionally to ensure that all departments are aware of GMP culture. 3. Working with plant quality technician and management to document any non-compliances noticed throughout the shift. Trainings 1. Collaborating with the quality assurance manager to review and maintain all training materials and update when needed. 2. Assist quality manager and human resources on conducting annual SQF training with the plant employees across both shifts. 3. Assist with new hires training needs, ensuring proper training is completed in accordance to SQF. 4. Stay up to date with current food regulations and SQF updates, updating training papers and documents when applicable. 5. Work cross functionally to train and coach manufacturing employees when needed. Work with area managers to determine training needs.
Safety:
1. Use proper PPE when collecting and handling samples, products and chemicals. 2. Maintain inventory of PPE and communicate to procurement when PPE needs to be replenished. 3. Stay up to date on safety regulations and conducting trainings when applicable. 4. Ensure employees maintain a clean and safe working environment. 5. Notifying and reporting to management of any hazards, potential hazards, injuries and other concerns. 6. Ensuring proper compliance with chemical control program and documenting non-conformances. Quality Laboratory Backup 1. In the absence of a quality lab technician, this position will act as a backup for daily tasks.
Alternate:
The Quality Assurance Manager is to perform or delegate the above functions when the person is absent.
Minimum Requirements:
Computer skills including Microsoft office. Bachelors Degree in Food Science or equivalent science degree. Minimum of 1 to 2 years experience in the food industry. SQF experience is a plus. Communication skills
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to taste and smell chemicals, flavors and food products. Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time in a laboratory setting. Must be able to lift 50 bags of products.
Working Environment:
Manufacturing environment with exposure to a variety of food GRAS chemicals, flavors and food products.

$24.00 - $30.47 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
