Job Title:
2nd Shift Quality Inspector Job Description This role focuses on inspecting medical wire and tubing made primarily from stainless steel, brass, and nitinol to ensure they meet strict quality and production standards. The quality inspector uses precision measuring tools and electronic inspection equipment to verify dimensions such as length, height, and diameter, while accurately documenting results in a quality system. This position supports incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities on the 2nd shift. Responsibilities Inspect medical wire and tubing during incoming, in-process, and final inspection stages to ensure all products meet established quality standards. Use calipers, micrometers, steel rulers, gauges, and visual inspection tools to measure dimensions including diameter, length, and height of metal products. Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to understand product requirements and inspection criteria. Monitor production operations to verify that processes and outputs meet defined production and quality standards. Recommend adjustments to assembly or production processes when inspection results indicate deviations or potential quality issues. Perform impact, functional, and dimensional tests on materials and products being produced to confirm conformance. Operate electronic inspection equipment and software, including optical non-contact visual inspection machines, coordinate-measuring machines (CMMs), and 3D scanners. Approve or reject raw materials and finished products based on quality standards, and accurately record supplier performance and inspection outcomes. Remove, segregate, or clearly identify products and materials that fail to meet specifications to prevent unintended use. Record and report inspection and test data such as weights, temperatures, grades, moisture content, and quantities inspected in the appropriate quality systems. Enter inspection results and related information into the IQMS database and other quality system documentation according to established procedures. Prepare and submit clear, accurate quality reports to quality management in accordance with incoming inspection procedures and related documentation. Apply and follow procedures related to sampling tables for rejections, including variable and attribute sampling methods. Assist production personnel by promoting ideas and practices that reduce waste of materials and time while maintaining or improving quality. Continuously monitor own work to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and adherence to quality expectations, and incorporate feedback to improve performance. Essential Skills Experience working with metals, particularly stainless steel, brass, and nitinol in a manufacturing or quality inspection environment. Proficiency using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and steel rulers to measure metal wires and components. Ability to operate visual measuring tools similar to a coordinate-measuring machine (CMM) and optical non-contact visual inspection machines. Strong blueprint reading skills, including the ability to interpret specifications, tolerances, and dimensional requirements. Hands-on experience with quality control and inspection activities, including incoming, in-process, and final inspections. Familiarity with quality systems and documentation, including entering data into computer-based quality systems such as IQMS. Understanding of ISO-related quality system documentation and procedures. Demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness in inspection tasks, with a consistent focus on improving and promoting quality. Ability to apply feedback to improve performance and to monitor personal work output for quality and completeness. High school diploma (HS Diploma). Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating coordinate-measuring machines (CMMs) and 3D scanners for dimensional inspection. Knowledge of incoming inspection procedures and related documentation requirements. Familiarity with rejection and sampling tables for both variable and attribute inspections. Comfort working with electronic inspection equipment and associated software. Ability to support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to reduce material waste and improve process efficiency. Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation skills in a manufacturing quality environment. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is on the 2nd shift, working Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The position is based in a manufacturing facility with multiple departments and three operating shifts, providing exposure to a variety of processes and teams. The work involves regular use of precision measuring tools, electronic inspection equipment, and computer-based quality systems in a production setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rahway, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
