Mentor, Ohio Position:
Quality Inspector Shift:
Day shift
Pay Range:
$25-$31 per hour, based on direct Inspection experience
Location:
Total Manufacturing — 7777 St. Clair Ave., Mentor, OH 44060 About Total Manufacturing Total Manufacturing is a privately owned precision machine shop based in Mentor, Ohio, operating out of a 90,000 square foot facility built around skilled craftsmanship and modern equipment. Our work spans CNC milling and turning, EDM, manual machining, grinding, welding, fabrication, and painting — supporting rapid prototyping as well as small to medium volume production for customers who demand tight tolerances and complex geometries. We are proud of a team whose average tenure exceeds 20 years. That kind of stability is the result of treating people well, investing in our equipment, and giving experienced machinists the autonomy to do their best work. Our EDM department — with both wire and sinker capabilities — produces intricate features and surface finishes that conventional machining cannot achieve, in some of the toughest materials we run. The Role The Quality Inspector verifies that materials, components, processes, and finished products meet drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and the company quality system. This role performs objective inspections, records results accurately, controls nonconforming product, and works with production and engineering to resolve quality issues before products are released or shipped. What You'll Do
  • Perform receiving, in-process, first-piece, and final inspections using approved sampling plans, control plans, work instructions, and acceptance criteria.
  • Read and apply engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, tolerances, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements appropriate to assigned work.
  • Use calibrated inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, indicators, comparators, surface-finish tools, and coordinate measuring machines when trained and authorized.
  • Record inspection results in paper or electronic systems with complete lot, serial, material, and operator traceability. Maintain inspection reports, certificates, and related quality records.
  • Identify, label, segregate, and place nonconforming material on hold. Initiate nonconformance records and provide clear evidence for disposition, root-cause analysis, and corrective action.
  • Verify material certifications, special-process documentation, revision levels, and other required records before acceptance or release.
  • Communicate defects and process concerns promptly to production, engineering, purchasing, and quality leadership. Support material review and supplier-quality activities as assigned.
  • Protect inspection equipment, verify calibration status before use, and report damaged, inaccurate, or overdue equipment immediately. What You Bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years of quality inspection, machining, fabrication, assembly, or comparable manufacturing experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and specifications and apply shop mathematics, including decimals, fractions, ratios, and unit conversions.
  • Practical experience using common precision measuring instruments and documenting inspection results.
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry and use of email, spreadsheets, enterprise resource planning, or quality management systems.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production personnel and technical teams.
