The Quality Inspector serves as the final safeguard ensuring that customers receive only fully compliant, high‑quality products. This role is responsible for verifying that all manufactured parts meet both company and customer specifications, following defined acceptance criteria and industry standards. Success in this position requires confidence, sound judgment, and the courage to act decisively — including exercising the authority to halt production when necessary. Working closely with production teams, the Quality Inspector conducts scheduled and spot‑check inspections throughout the manufacturing process and performs thorough final inspections before products are shipped. The role also includes collecting defect data, tracking quality metrics, and accurately documenting all inspection results.
Essential Job Functions:
- Visually monitor the quality of parts, including secondary operations, using specified acceptance criteria and standards.
- Assess the quality and accept or reject product during start-up, in-process, and final stages, based on quality criteria specified by the company and customer requirements
- Perform first piece approval after process has been stabilized.
- Perform dimensional inspections on products to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
- Perform fit and function tests to ensure compliance with customer requirements and specifications.
- Provide inspection data feedback for production regarding non-conformance issues.
- Accurately document results of the inspections and testing data.
- Identify, contain and document all defective and suspect products.
- Make independent judgments for subjective quality criteria.
- Operate precision measuring instruments in accordance with approved procedures.
- Verify, index, file and retrieve quality records.
- Provide input for inspection methods and improvements related to the job.
- Actively participate in problem solving activities.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement, corrective and preventive action, and customer satisfaction initiatives.
- Actively participate in shift meetings and MRB.
- Assist in the training of production personnel regarding quality standards and identification of cosmetic defects.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of inspection experience in a manufacturing environment. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience performing inspection in a plastic injection molding environment. Knowledge of molding operations procedures Previous experience conducting internal quality audits.
- Proficient in the use of measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges, and specialized test equipment (e.g., color spectrometers and gloss meters).
- Working knowledge of ISO/QS9000 or similar quality management systems.
Physical Skills and Requirements:
- Long periods of standing, walking, stooping, and reaching; requires physical agility and dexterity.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to approach problem‑solving methodically: define issues, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Strong analytical and decision‑making skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
