The Quality Control Technician performs testing and evaluation of raw materials and finished products to ensure product & process conformance to quality standards, product specifications, and other requirements.
Essential Responsibilities:
Conduct inspections of incoming raw materials Perform intermediate and finished product testing in accordance with work instructions, test methods, and follow all other procedures Develop lab blends for color matching, material work-off, and trial batches Approves material which conforms to requirements and forwards any questionable items to Production or Quality Supervisor/Manager Verify adherence of materials to quality specifications & customer requirements Manage retained samples / ensure paperwork accuracy daily Conduct and ensure calibration of laboratory and plant equipment Utilize and maintain QC equipment and instrumentation (particle size analyzer, Inkometer, Brookfield viscometers, Zahn cups, pH meter, etc.) Performs stability checks to validate shelf life of materials Utilize ERP system and other software as needed to enter inspection, calibration, and sample results Data entry using various software programs to update information on material test results, material stabilities, release material and products Works with Technical Services and/or Production departments to resolve customer or material issues Utilize email to communicate with colleagues, customers, and other departments as necessary Must be able to discern color and brilliance confirmed by a color vision test Ability to perform algebraic equations Strong communication skills Ability to make independent decisions in accordance with instructions, procedures, and policies Detail oriented with solid organizational skills Ability to multitask and set priorities May be required to flex between labs (Bronze/Bonding, Ink QC) and working hours Use MS Word and Excel as required Performs filing and other administrative duties Cleans and maintains laboratory areas Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, and an associate degree in science or related discipline; or two years of directly related experience, in lieu of an associate degree. Paint, coatings, chemical laboratory related experience preferred Six months' experience with SAP and/or another ERP system preferred Able to perform all elements of job demand analysis for position
