Job Description

Position Summary:
Responsible for operating the program(s) to measure prototype parts, current production problem parts, fixtures and dies, coordinate and document data resulting from inspection. The CMM Operator is responsible for the on-time validation of check fixtures, off shift repair of hand held gages, off shift resource for floor CMM trouble shooting. Essential Job Functions include, but not limited to, the following: Use the following devices: Calipers, Feeler Gauge, Indicator, Micrometers, Height Gauge, PC, Pin Gauge, Optical Compariter, Coordinate Measuring Machine equipment Measure parts or fixtures using: Surface plate with gauges or measuring equipment. CMM measure parts in "car" position or as indicated on program setup instructions and provide data in the requested format CMM measure check fixtures, verifying fixture and feature conditions, making minor repairs, settup as required on setup instructions and monitoring for unexpected changes from previous validation; Provide data in the requested format Problem solve: If measurement is perceived to be incorrect, validate the data Communicate error-free data using appropriate reporting methods Check the fixture or tool to print
Analyze Capability Study:
Interpret completed studies and offer recommendations for process improvement if necessary. Give raw data and charts developed from that data, along with feedback to the requester of the study
Program CMM:
Apply layout techiques and create measurement programs, both manual and CNC Interpret and debug part programs Create and maintain accurate set-up instructions for each program that may be re-used by other personnel. Documents within the measuremeent program as well as the CMM Layout Table Form Apply error-proofing methods in the program to allow for consistent, repeatable measurement between parts which exhibit a fair amount of variation Use measurement variables for both machine movement and data manipulation Complete preventative maintenance. Clean machine, making sure that all tracks are clear of debris per schedule or as needed. Support Floor CMM users with programs/measurement method useable by manufacturing associates. Maintain the CMM so that it is functional and meets production needs. Perform Gage R&R and enter data into Gage R&R software as needed. Maintain accurate and complete report. Interpret Gage R&R data to determine gauge's acceptability for use. Assure completeness of all layout documentation per applicable procedures (i.e. Layout Request, Layout Log, Inspection Report). Assure that inspection results are filed in the proper location. Additional functions not specifically outlined in this position description as directed by the leader.
Position Skills and Experience Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty effectively. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions. High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED). Completion of some coursework in CMM. Basic knowledge of PC, Basic SPC and working knowledge of GD&T. Basic algebra and trigonometry knowledge. Blueprints & customer print reading. Must have a good appreciation of Engineering drawings and applications. Advanced Problem-solving. Previous experience in a Manufacturing industry preferably automotive. Understanding of Manufacturing processes and core quality tools like
APQP, FMEA.
Must be flexible and adaptable to work evenings and weekends as role demands. Skilled in the use of measuring equipment. Previous CMM experience preferred.
