Job Description

The H&K Group is seeking an Aggregate & Asphalt Quality Control Technician for our Northern Region. In this field-based role, you will perform daily sampling and testing of aggregates and asphalt mixes to ensure compliance with DOT, project, and company specifications. Responsibilities include operating lab and field testing equipment, documenting and reporting test results, assisting with mix adjustments, and maintaining accurate quality records. You will collaborate closely with plant, paving, and construction crews, support safe work practices, and help deliver high-quality materials on schedule across diverse heavy civil projects. Responsibilities Perform daily sampling and testing of aggregates and asphalt mixes Operate and maintain lab and field quality control testing equipment Document, analyze, and report test results accurately and on time Assist with mix design verification and production adjustments based on test data Ensure compliance with DOT, project, and company quality specifications Maintain organized quality records, logs, and test documentation Collaborate with plant, paving, and construction teams to resolve quality issues Follow and promote all company and site safety policies and procedures Calibrate and verify testing equipment to ensure accurate results Support continuous improvement of quality control processes and standards Required Skills Aggregate testing (gradation, moisture, specific gravity) Asphalt mix testing (density, air voids, compaction) Use of nuclear density gauge and field testing equipment Familiarity with DOT and project material specifications Data recording, analysis, and quality documentation Basic math and measurement skills for mix adjustments Reading and interpreting construction and mix design documents Equipment calibration and routine maintenance Microsoft Excel or lab information management systems Strong adherence to safety procedures in field and lab settings
