Roadway Technician at King Asphalt Roadway Technician at King Asphalt in Conway, South Carolina Posted in about 15 hours ago. Job summary The Roadway Technician is responsible for the testing and inspection of road construction materials, paving techniques and equipment being used, including but not limited to Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and Granular Base Course (GBC). SCDOT or NCDOT Certified a plus! The purpose of inspecting and testing of road construction materials is to determine whether or not their characteristics, properties and quality meet or exceed the standards and specifications prescribed by our customers. Density determines the durability and longevity of the finished product. Essential duties and responsibilities Perform testing in accordance with DOT Standards including cutting cores, filling and compacting core holes, and delivering cores to the lab. Understanding compaction methods and procedures. Analysis of test data and corrective action to prevent non-conforming products. Documentation and Data Control. Care and Maintenance of testing equipment. Purchasing and Calibration of testing equipment. Developing and Training for succession.
KNOWLEDGE
Thorough knowledge of specialized field, extensive use of computer network and a variety of precision measuring instruments, knowledge of mix design, QC of Mix design.
EXPERIENCE
A technician should have a high school education with good basic math skills. Some technical study and construction experience are helpful. As a minimum, however, the technician must be able to perform accurate mathematical calculations and should be familiar with the fundamentals of engineering equations. It is essential that Technicians know how to read and understand plans, specifications and other contract documents in order to understand requirements of the work.
