Southwire and its subsidiaries manufacture building wire and cable, utility products, metal-clad cable, portable and electronic cord products, OEM wire products and engineered products. In addition, Southwire supplies assembled products, contractor equipment, electrical components, hand tools andjobsite power and lighting solutions. The company also offers digital solutions including contractor planning and utility grid resiliency as well as field services including cable testing, rejuvenation and replacement to support our customers as a value-add partner. The purpose of Southwire's College Programs is to provide valuable experience to students pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher. Our goal is to give students meaningful work that builds on what they are learning in the classroom. Our programs are project based. $26.12- $27.25 Job Description Qualifications and Experience Requirements- Minimum 1 year wire and cable manufacturing or testing experience (preferred)
- Experience with using calipers, micrometers, small scales
- Ability to perform basic tasks and tests during short periods
- Ability to make basic judgement calls based on specifications and standards
- A minimum of a H.S. Diploma is required
- Good reading and writing skills, able to solve basic mathematics / problems
- Basic level skills in MS Word and MS Excel
- Ability to work in a group setting, participating in problem-solving teams General Job Duties
- Support Rod Mill Testing Requirements, perform tests accurately and timely
- Support Wire and Cable Mill Testing Requirements
- Work effectively with basic tasks and with little to no supervision
- Ability to work safely, always, and maintain working area clean and organized during 12 hr. shift
- This job requires constant walking throughout the facility to collect samples required for testing
- Majority of time in QA Lab requires standing while performing job duties. Environmental/Safety/Quality
- Follow all company environmental rules/procedures and handle all materials in a manner designed to minimize environmental impact.
- Follow prescribed safety rules/procedures to prevent injury to self and others and to maintain safe equipment and conditions in entire area of responsibility.
- Seek the assistance and advice of safety representatives on matters concerning safe practices, policies and/or procedures and give personal support to all safety activities and procedures.
- Use the company's ISO Quality System documentation to help guide all daily quality activities.
