ACS Manufacturing is a state-of-the-art design build manufacturer of acoustical equipment enclosures for power generation and switchgear, fuel tanks and skids. We have one of the largest facilities in the industry, nearly 300,000 square feet on 36 acres in Denison, Texas and have expanded operations to a 150,000 square foot facility in Abbeville, SC and to a 325,000 square foot facility in Clearfield, Utah.
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the QA Manager, the Mechanical Quality Control Inspector is responsible for inspecting mechanical components, assemblies, and welded structures to ensure compliance with customer specifications, engineering drawings, applicable codes, and material standards. This role includes initiating and documenting non-conformance reports, supporting root cause analysis, and maintaining accurate inspection records as well as completing them in a timely manner. The inspector plays a key role in ensuring product quality and safety throughout the fabrication and assembly process.
Job Responsibilities/Duties:
Inspection & Testing:
  • Perform inspections of mechanical systems, welded assemblies, structural components, and fabricated parts
  • Conduct dimensional and positional inspections using precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, dial indicators)
  • Inspect welds for quality, size, and conformance to AWS D1.1 or other applicable welding codes
  • Verify proper fit-up, alignment, and tolerances of mechanical assemblies
  • Conduct pressure tests, leak tests, and vibration tests on mechanical systems as required
  • Assist in sound abatement performance testing and other functional tests
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Complete inspection reports, control plans, checklists, and job records thoroughly and completely in a timely manner
  • Initiate non-conformance reports (NCRs), tag affected materials, and monitor corrective actions
  • Maintain accurate records of inspection activities and calibration status of tools
  • Review and verify shop drawings and fabrication details
Technical Review and Support:
  • Interpret complex mechanical drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication sketches
  • Verify material certifications, welding procedure specifications (WPS), and welder qualifications
  • Support the calibration program for mechanical inspection tools and gauges
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to resolve mechanical quality issues
  • Assist in the development of inspection matrices, punch lists, and quality control documentation
Compliance and Safety:
  • Ensure all mechanical and welded products meet local, state, and federal codes and standards
  • Prepare for and support customer witness inspections and factory acceptance tests (FAT)
  • Promote and enforce safety standards including PPE usage and safe handling of equipment and materials
Collaboration and Training:
  • Provide feedback to welders, fabricators, and mechanical technicians regarding workmanship and code compliance
  • Assist in training initiatives related to welding quality, mechanical assembly standards, and inspection techniques
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve issues and improve processes
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) with satisfactory typing and data entry speed
  • Proficient taking digital pictures and incorporating them into reports
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, structural fabrication, and welding processes
  • Familiarity with AWS, ASME, ASTM, and ISO standards related to welding and mechanical fabrication
  • Ability to read and interpret welding symbols, GD&T, and mechanical tolerances
  • Skilled in using inspection tools such as weld gauges, ultrasonic thickness gauges, borescopes, and hardness testers
  • Knowledge of welding processes including MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Cored Arc Welding
  • Experience with pressure vessels, piping systems, and rotating equipment is a plus
  • Understanding of Bill of Materials (BOM) and as-built documentation
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; ability to coach, to be coachable and demonstrate repair/rework techniques
Physical Working Conditions:
  • Exposure to ambient temperatures, dust, fumes, smoke, and loud noises
  • Work may occur in areas without climate control and outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Ability to stoop, bend, reach, climb, kneel, and work at heights over 18 feet
  • Good eyesight (with or without corrective lenses), including near vision and color differentiation
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and push/pull heavier objects
  • Work in environments involving potentially hazardous materials and situations requiring PPE Minimum Requirements
  • Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Welding Technology, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical fabrication, welding inspection, or quality control
  • Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical drawings and welding symbols
  • Must pass a drug screen and background check
  • English proficiency required; Spanish bilingual is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of measuring devices and mechanical inspection tools
