Overview Join our team as a Virginia State Vehicle Inspector and play a vital role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and optimal performance of vehicles across the state. This dynamic position offers an exciting opportunity to utilize your mechanical expertise and automotive knowledge to conduct thorough inspections, diagnose issues, and uphold high standards for vehicle safety. As a key contributor, you will help maintain the integrity of vehicle operations through detailed assessments and hands-on maintenance, supporting both individual drivers and commercial fleets. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive inspections of passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks to ensure compliance with state safety standards and regulations. Conduct vehicle maintenance tasks including tire changes, brake checks, fluid top-offs, and minor mechanical repairs using hand tools and power tools. Diagnose mechanical systems such as electrical wiring, engine components, suspension, and braking systems to identify issues requiring repair or replacement. Utilize automotive parts catalogs and accessories knowledge to recommend necessary repairs or replacements during inspections. Assist with auto estimating by assessing damage or wear to determine repair scope and cost estimates. Execute vehicle inspections with precision, documenting findings thoroughly and accurately for regulatory compliance. Support auto restoration projects by performing mechanical repairs and system overhauls as needed to ensure vehicles meet safety standards. Qualifications Proven experience operating standard passenger cars safely and efficiently. Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in automotive repair, including tire changes, electrical systems repair, and vehicle maintenance. Familiarity with automotive parts, accessories, and auto estimating processes. Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and mechanical systems repair equipment effectively. Knowledge of automotive electrical systems and mechanical systems is essential. Physical capability for heavy lifting and performing manual tasks during inspections or repairs. Excellent customer service skills to communicate clearly with vehicle owners or fleet managers regarding inspection results or repair needs. Mechanic experience or auto technician background preferred for thorough understanding of vehicle operation and repair procedures.
