Waukesha local manufacturer has an exciting opportunity for an experienced CWI to join the team in a new role we are looking to onboard to strengthen our growing quality and welding departments! Great opportunity for an experienced Welder/CWI looking to make an immediate impact, in a better working culture, by leveraging their experience in installing, improving, verifying welding processes, support critical welding inspections, and mentoring others. Ideal candidates will be experienced, passionate welders with current AWS Certification and at least 2 years of experience (post certification) evaluating, developing, and maintaining weld procedures in a contract metal fabrication environment. This role will be critical to supporting our operations team, growing customer demand, and will have a heavy influence on the next phase of key company growth and personnel development. Primary Responsibilities:
Review prints for existing and new welding projects to interpret specs, and requirements to establish welding procedures, inspection plans and requirements needed. Maintain, monitor welding procedures, welder qualifications, and inspection requirements to verify compliance to standards. Develop, document, maintain detailed visual or dimension inspections, weld maps, and traceability reports according to customer and project specifications and standards. Conduct visual and dimensional inspections on welds across various projects Serve as internal and external representative for instances of non-conformances, corrective action plans, and welding audit processes as needed Assist in developing welder qualification program that includes new hire assessments, weld team qualification processes, and training plans for critical welding projects Support operations and welding team by providing clear welding procedures, and guidance on best practices, quality expectations to meet customer expectations Assist quality department in routine inspection processes and development for other areas of fabrication as needed to support workload: including laser, and brake press areas
Requirements:
Required:
Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification. 5+ years of experience in a metal fabrication environment, with at least 2 years of experience in a dedicated welding quality and welding inspection role post certification Strong background in welding inspection, fabrication, and welding quality. Practical experience installing weld procedures and standards according to AWS Codes Experience developing welder assessment and qualification processes Excellent communication skills and ability to teach, coach, and mentor others indirectly Proficiency with inspection tools and documentation and Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and building code requirements. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate project documentation. Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and strong organizational skills.
