Sewing Machine Operator/ Industrial Seamstress - Sewist Railway Products Group, Inc - 2.3 Baltimore, MD Job Details Full-time $18 - $23 an hour 21 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Paid time off Vision insurance 401(k) matching Life insurance Qualifications Sewing Spanish Stitching English Basic stitching technique Sewing machine Vinyl Manufacturing Leather Full Job Description We are looking to hire a Seamstress/Sewing Machine Operator to sew and operate industrial sewing machines by following patterns and processes to manufacture fabric seat covers-bottoms and backs., heavy-duty curtains/shower curtains with sewn in magnets and products made from heavy-duty rubberized material. Responsibilities include setting up manual sewing machines, including single needle, double needle, and surging/overlock. Measurement, Cut and Sewing different kinds of fabrics, including leather and rubber. If given an interview opportunity, please bring samples of your work.
Duties:
  • Use of industrial sewing machine
  • Able to perform fabric finishing - Cutting, Trimming, Stitching, Seaming, Sewing Finishing (Velcro, Pole Pockets, Grommets, Magnets, etc)
  • Must have experience with upholstery fabrics and thick commercial materials (i.e. vinyl)
  • Read drawings/patterns and apply knowledge and experience with materials to determine types of finishing.
  • Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering and sorting materials.
  • Prepares machine by changing needles and thread; securing attachments.
  • Approves materials by inspecting materials for flaws.
  • Sews materials together by guiding material under machine needle.
  • Adjusts machine performance on material by observing machine operation; detecting malfunctions; adjusting settings.
  • Maintains quality by inspecting finished product.
  • Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Ensure machines are in good working order and stay attentive to any problems
  • Maintain cleanliness and good housekeeping in the sewing area
  • Maintains materials and supplies inventory by checking materials and supplies to determine inventory level; anticipating needed materials and supplies
  • Resolves assembly problems by altering dimensions to meet specifications; notifying supervisor to obtain additional resources.
  • Documents actions by completing work orders, production and quality logs.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Meet all time and scheduling deadlines.
Additional Skills:
Sound knowledge of various fabrics and sewing techniques. Ability to work under time constraints. Ability to safely use different types of sewing machines. Ability and knowledge to troubleshoot machine issues (change needles, identify tension problems, bobbin issues). Effective communication skills. Detail-oriented A passion towards developing quality product and enjoy taking on new challenges as we launch new products. The motivation to learn and expand your skillset in efforts to create quality products. Holds a strong attention to detail and has an eye for high quality work. Ability to work a flexible part-full time schedule based upon orders Must be able to read and comprehend English language instructions, but we do have a Spanish speaking supervisor. Standing, sitting, walking, bending as needed. Must be able to climb a step stool when necessary. Have the ability to use a tape measure and other measuring instruments.
