Kiln Firing Operator - Temp to
Hire Location:
South Simpsonville, SC Pay:
17.28 - $20.10 2nd and 3rd Shift candidates preferred Job Summary We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Firing Operator to join our manufacturing team in South Simpsonville, SC. The Firing Operator is responsible for loading and unloading ceramic kilns, monitoring and adjusting kiln temperatures, processing materials according to production schedules, and ensuring product quality throughout the firing process. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Perform all kiln loading and unloading operations in accordance with established procedures and work instructions. Load saggars with raw materials onto ceramic kilns while ensuring proper placement and handling. Monitor kiln operations and perform temperature checks as required to maintain process control. Adjust kiln temperatures based on production schedules and material specifications. Unload fired products from saggars and accurately identify and label products by lot number. Complete all required production paperwork, process documentation, and operational sign-offs accurately and timely. Process materials according to production schedules and planning requirements. Monitor product quality throughout the firing process and identify any out-of-specification conditions. Notify supervisors, engineers, or appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions, process deviations, or non-conforming product conditions. Move completed products to designated storage or production areas. Maintain cleanliness and organization of kiln areas, equipment, and workstations. Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards. Collaborate with team members, engineers, and supervisors to support production objectives and continuous improvement efforts. Perform other duties as assigned. Required QualificationsEducation High School Diploma, Associate Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience Minimum of 1 year of experience in a manufacturing, production, or industrial environment preferred. Experience operating manufacturing equipment, furnaces, kilns, or thermal processing equipment is a plus. Technical Skills Basic computer proficiency and data entry skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to accurately complete production records, documentation, and process paperwork. Understanding of basic mathematics, including arithmetic, fractions, decimals, and negative numbers. Ability to follow written procedures, production schedules, and technical specifications. Communication & Teamwork Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and understand technical reports, process specifications, work instructions, and related documentation. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards. Preferred Qualifications Experience in ceramics, advanced materials, industrial manufacturing, or thermal processing operations. Experience working with kiln systems, furnaces, or similar production equipment. Familiarity with quality control processes and non-conformance reporting. Knowledge of manufacturing safety practices and lean manufacturing principles. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the work shift. Ability to lift, move, and transport materials in accordance with established safety guidelines. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat-generating equipment. Ability to visually inspect products and equipment for quality and operational compliance. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Work Environment Manufacturing and production environment. Regular interaction with kiln equipment, raw materials, and finished products. Exposure to elevated temperatures and industrial equipment while following established safety procedures. Fast-paced setting requiring adherence to production schedules and quality standards.
