Stationary Engineer Elmira, NY Multiple Shifts Available Pay:

$90.00 per hour Job Summary The Stationary Engineer is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining high-pressure steam boilers and associated powerhouse equipment within a 24/7 industrial facility. This role performs routine inspections, water testing, preventive maintenance, system monitoring, recordkeeping, troubleshooting, and emergency response activities to support safe and reliable facility operations. The Stationary Engineer works with boiler-feedwater systems, pumps, compressors, generators, fuel systems, water-treatment equipment, and related mechanical systems. This position requires hands-on high-pressure boiler experience, strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently across assigned shifts in a demanding operating environment. Job Responsibilities Operate, monitor, and maintain high-pressure steam boilers and associated powerhouse equipment. Operate and maintain dual-fuel boilers and related boiler systems. Monitor and maintain boiler-feedwater systems, deaerator tanks, feed pumps, and associated equipment. Perform daily boiler-water testing and monitor boiler chemical levels. Maintain chemical-injection pumps, controls, and chemical storage systems. Monitor and maintain condensate tanks, transfer pumps, and return systems. Perform scheduled condensate-system blowdowns and conductivity blowdowns. Monitor and maintain water softener systems and replenish salt as needed. Clean and maintain fuel pumps and strainers. Operate and monitor air compressors used for boiler operations. Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) and maintain appropriate heating and cooling conditions. Operate and monitor emergency generators, switchgear, and related systems. Conduct scheduled emergency-generator testing and maintain required records. Monitor fuel-oil storage systems and switch fuel tanks as required. Perform routine maintenance on pumps, compressors, generators, fuel systems, water-treatment equipment, and other mechanical systems. Troubleshoot equipment and respond to emergency operational and maintenance needs. Complete operational logs, maintenance records, and required facility documentation accurately and consistently. Job Requirements Hands-on experience operating and maintaining high-pressure boilers and steam-plant equipment. Experience operating and maintaining commercial or industrial powerhouse equipment. Previous experience as a Stationary Engineer, Operating Engineer, Boiler Operator, Building Engineer, Power Plant Operator, or similar role preferred. Experience working in a correctional facility or similarly regulated environment preferred. Knowledge of boiler-feedwater systems, pumps, generators, compressors, fuel systems, and water-treatment equipment. Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) or HVAC controls preferred. Ability to troubleshoot, monitor, and perform routine maintenance on mechanical and powerhouse systems. Ability to work assigned first, second, or third shifts in a 24/7 operating environment. Ability to work independently and respond effectively to emergency operational and maintenance needs. Ability to maintain accurate operational and maintenance records. Ability to successfully complete a required background check. Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.) Work is performed in a 24/7 industrial operating environment. Must be available to work assigned first, second, or third shifts. Regular and reliable attendance is required to support continuous facility operations.
