Job Description
Tool & Die Technician
- Birmingham
- Direct Hire
- MUST have at least 3 years experience
- $30-34/hour The Tool & Die Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of progressive stamping dies to support efficient production operations.
Tooling Setup, Maintenance & Repair:
- Perform changeovers and aid in the setup of progressive stamping dies in production presses.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain progressive dies to minimize downtime.
- Perform die spotting, fitting, grinding, polishing, and assembly of tooling components.
- Diagnose die, tooling, and part-quality issues; determine root causes; and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and scrap.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on dies and tool room equipment.
- Ensure tooling is production-ready prior to scheduled runs.
Machining & Technical Knowledge:
- Program and operate Haas CNC machining centers and Wire EDM machines to manufacture, modify, and repair tooling components.
- Machine and fit tooling components to specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models.
- Measure and verify tooling dimensions using micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Recommend tooling improvements that enhance efficiency, quality, and equipment reliability.
Position Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Tool & Die apprenticeship, technical certification, or equivalent technical training preferred.
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in tool and die maintenance within a metal stamping environment.
- Experience with progressive stamping dies is required.
- Proficiency in programming and operating Haas CNC machines.
- Experience using manual mills, lathes, grinders, cranes and other tool room equipment.
Skills & Competencies:
- Ability to read blueprints, tooling drawings, and CAD models.
- Strong knowledge of machining practices, die construction, and metal stamping processes.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and work order management.
- Understanding of progressive die operation and setup.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and workplace safety.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and walking throughout the workday.
Pay:
$30.00- $34.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0
