JOB OBJECTIVE/ SUMMARY

The objective of the Gunsmith Apprentice/Armorer position is to provide maintenance, repair, or alteration service on firearms in order to comply with customer requirements and specifications. Responsibilities involve cleaning, parts installation, mounting and bore sighting optics, as well as a variety of other gunsmithing tasks and general shop maintenance tasks.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Perform basic and detailed cleaning of many firearm models from antique muzzle loaders to modern semiautomatics.
• Sight Installation, mount and boresight optics
• Read and interpret customer's description of work requested
• Break firearms down and install parts or parts kits as needed
• Customer Interface
• Perform maintenance and cleaning for shop areas, equipment, tools etc.
• Perform other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Utilize safety equipment as required. Manual dexterity to perform intricate repairs. Lifting and transporting up to 50 pounds (boxes of guns, equipment, etc.) Bending and reaching to obtain parts and products. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time. Safe use of typical gunsmithing solvents, cleaners, lubricants and finishes.

QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES

• Basic understanding of firearms and how they operate.
• Ability to understand the mechanical function and of the firearm's working parts.
• Must have detailed work habits to ensure proper functioning of the repaired guns.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to use a computer.
• Ability to work with hand tools.
• Ability to work weekends (work hours are currently Tues - Fri from 9:30am to 6pm and Sat from 8am to 4pm)
• Must be familiar with BATF and California DOJ firearms guidelines
• Must have or be capable of obtaining a California DOJ Certificate of Eligibility

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

Completion of armorer courses or equivalent experience/training in firearms repair. CA Certified Firearm Safety Instructor. Attendance and completion of a NRA certified Gunsmithing school or program. Proficiency of CA DROS entry system.
