Job Description

SUMMARY:
Produce High quality parts for prototyping, fixtures, or tooling. Works with engineers on bringing concepts to reality using Haas CNC vertical mills, manual mill or lathe, screw machines, surface grinders and wire EDM and sinkers. Mastercam and Solid works are used for drafting and programming. Familiarity with Fine and Conventional Blanking processes and die maintenance are a plus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following. Setup and run manual Mills, Lathes, Surface Grinders, Perform precision machining to tight tolerances on tooling, die components, and related parts. Competent blueprint reading and tolerance understanding, using micrometers, indicators, edge finder's calipers or various measuring tools to verify part accuracy. Deburr parts as necessary. Diagnose and resolve machining, fit, or assembly issues through hands-on troubleshooting and collaboration with others. Communicate effectively with engineering to advise on machinability of new components. Perform routine maintenance tasks on machines as required. Maintain cleanliness and maintenance of the machines in the Tool Room. Comply with all standard safety practices, safety rules, and all Company rules and policies. Comply with all quality policies, specifications and instructions. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position. All other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL SKILLSETS
Setup and running Haas CNC Mills a plus. Program using Mastercam software a plus. Hand edit M and G code at the machine. Program and operate Wire EDM and sinker. Program swiss mills with Mastercam software. Timing, sharpening and adjustment of dies.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to read and interpret work from sketches, specifications, blueprints and job orders to workers through BOMs (Build of Materials). Have a thorough knowledge of Tool Steels, along with knowing the heat treating qualities of a tool steel, and their application. Ability to troubleshoot machining, tooling, and assembly issues. Excellent communications skills. Able to work well independently and as a team. Must possess a sense of urgency, accountability, and professionalism. Must be self-starter able to multi-task and prioritize workload.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Associate Degree or technical degree or equivalent combination of experience & education. 5 years experience as a Machinist. MasterCam or equivalent drawing and programming a plus. Solidworks or equivalent experience a plus. Understanding of Tool and Die process. Experience working within a manufacturing environment a plus. Buck Knives is willing to train the right person in certain areas, if majority of qualifications are already met.
