Job Summary
Overview

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit's Commercial Business Units ("Spirit Commercial"). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing's three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial's core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.

Responsibilities

Location:

Wichita, KS

Position Responsibilities:
  • Bring exterior skin surface back to engineering reequipments using a variety of tools to correct skin imperfections
  • Abrading/Burnishing to remove imperfections in the exterior skin
  • Perform any pickup, touchup, rework, non-conformance, part span and incorporation of changes to the product as required.
  • Utilizes precision measuring equipment (calipers, scales, etc.) to perform self-inspection of in-process and finished work.
  • Perform routine minor machine maintenance as part of their daily work duties (e.g., replacing machine filters, lubrication/coolant levels, etc. as related to basic Total Preventative Maintenance duties).
  • Routinely move product within the shop-defined area, including across aisle, using shop assigned equipment as required, and complete transactions necessary to move product to the next operation.
  • Minor hand form experience on detail skins using rubber mallets, nylon bunches, and bean bags
  • Maintain required certifications, licenses, permits, and qualifications as needed. (e.g. SLS, BAC, Nadcap, AS9100, crane, sealer, liquid nitrogen, vehicle ops)
  • Ensure compliance with applicable processes (e.g., FOD, Hazmat, OSHA, QMS)
  • Qualifications
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Precision sanding skills with minimum 2 years' experience with the following tools:

In line die grinder

90 degree die grinder

Orbital sander

Jitterbug

All applicants must be willing and able to work any shift, including alternative work weeks.

Majority of new hires will be hired on 2nd shift.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

5 years experience in aircraft industry blending detail parts, fabricated skins, or in sheet metal.

5 years experience in hand form.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as spanet and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range:

$20.50/hour, with potential to earn up to $37.40/hour in accordance with the terms of the relevant collective bargaining agreement.
