Job Title:
Tooling Technician Job Description This position involves the repair of molds, jigs, fixtures, and other tooling equipment related to plastic injection molds and the assembly of plastic products. The Tooling Technician will work collaboratively within a team of four, ensuring the proper maintenance and modification of tooling equipment. Responsibilities Train personnel in the proper use of equipment. Read blueprints and use measuring instruments and math to repair parts for broken molds, jigs, and fixtures. Maintain adequate repair supplies such as core and ejector pins, die springs, and other materials. Modify molds, jigs, and fixtures to correct problems. Inspect and verify changes made by outside mold vendors, ensuring adherence to standards and specifications detailed in purchase and engineering change orders. Perform skilled work involving close tolerances, exceeding the competence level of a tool cleaner. Maintain records of all repairs, modifications, and inventory performed. Essential Skills 2+ years of experience in plastic injection. 2+ years of mold or tool repair experience. 2+ years of experience with jigs and fixtures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Physical capability to walk for the entire work shift. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds repeatedly. Repeated bending and lifting during the shift. Must wear steel-toe footwear. Adequate visual acuity for molding press programming. Requirements for forklift and crane license. Capability to exert up to 150 foot pounds on a torque wrench. Work Environment The facility specializes in the production of dashboards for automotive companies such as GM, Ford, and Nissan. The plant operates in a typical injection molding and automotive manufacturing environment, which can be warm in the summer and slightly dirty due to the high usage of the injection mold area. However, it is well-organized due to continuous improvement efforts. The second shift operates from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with voluntary overtime available during weekdays. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Kalamazoo, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $27.70/hr.
