Job Title:
Tool and Die Machinist Job Description This role focuses on building, repairing, and maintaining precision tooling and dies using both manual and CNC equipment. You will interpret technical drawings, work to tight tolerances, and support production by ensuring tooling operates safely, reliably, and efficiently. The position combines hands-on machining, welding, troubleshooting, and collaboration with engineering and production teams to continuously improve tooling performance. Responsibilities Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to build, modify, or repair tooling and components. Set up and operate manual machining equipment, including mills, lathes, and grinders, to produce and repair tooling. Set up and operate CNC machinery to manufacture and refine precision tooling components. Fabricate, assemble, and fit dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges to tight tolerances to support production requirements. Troubleshoot and repair worn or damaged tooling to minimize production downtime and maintain consistent output quality. Perform preventative maintenance on tooling and related equipment to extend tool life and reduce unplanned failures. Inspect finished tools and components using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify accuracy and quality. Test new or repaired tooling and make adjustments as needed to meet established quality and performance standards. Collaborate closely with engineering and production teams to improve tooling performance and address recurring issues. Maintain accurate documentation of tooling repairs, modifications, and maintenance activities for traceability and continuous improvement. Follow established safety procedures and manufacturing quality standards while operating equipment and handling materials. Essential Skills Minimum of 3 years of experience in tool and die work or machining. Strong blueprint reading skills and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. Proven experience operating manual machining equipment, including mills, lathes, and grinders. Working knowledge of CNC machinery and related machining processes. Strong understanding of metal fabrication and tooling processes. Experience working with tight tolerances and precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges. Ability to perform Mig and Tig welding for tooling fabrication and repair. Experience repairing mechanical equipment in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a tooling and machining context. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in CNC machining and tool and die work. Hands-on experience with mechanical repair, including mills, lathes, and related equipment. Proficiency with a variety of measuring tools and inspection techniques. Comfort working both independently and as part of a cross-functional team. Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, precise work. Why Work Here? Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Claremont, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $28.00/hr.
