We are seeking an experienced Tool & Die Machinist to support tooling, die maintenance, and precision machining operations within a high-volume manufacturing environment. This hands-on position is responsible for building, repairing, modifying, and maintaining complex dies and tooling used in the production of steel electrical outlet boxes and related components. The ideal candidate will have strong manual machining skills, the ability to interpret engineering drawings and CAD information, and practical experience troubleshooting progressive and compound dies. This role is critical to maintaining equipment reliability, product quality, and uninterrupted production.
Key Responsibilities:
Build, repair, modify, and maintain dies, molds, fixtures, and production tooling according to engineering specifications. Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, CAD drawings, and technical specifications. Operate manual mills, lathes, surface grinders, drill presses, and other machine-shop equipment to produce precision components. Perform precision cutting, milling, turning, drilling, grinding, fitting, and finishing operations. Troubleshoot damaged or malfunctioning progressive and compound dies and determine appropriate repair methods. Disassemble, inspect, repair, reassemble, and test dies to return them to production service. Make tooling modifications and adjustments to accommodate new products, design changes, and process improvements. Machine components from various tool steels and other specialty materials. Inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments to verify dimensional accuracy. Work closely with production, engineering, maintenance, and quality teams to resolve tooling and manufacturing issues. Identify recurring die and tooling problems and recommend corrective actions to improve reliability and productivity. Perform preventive maintenance and keep tooling and work areas organized and in safe operating condition. Support efforts to minimize production downtime caused by tooling failures or dimensional issues. Follow all company safety procedures and maintain compliance with applicable workplace safety requirements. Required Qualifications Demonstrated experience as a Tool & Die Machinist, Die Repair Machinist, Toolmaker, or similar skilled-machining role. Ability to machine and fabricate tooling and components to drawing specifications. Proficiency reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD documentation. Hands-on experience operating manual lathes, milling machines, grinders, and related shop equipment. Experience repairing, maintaining, or modifying production dies and tooling. Knowledge of machining tool steels such as D2, A2, and copper-based materials. Strong mechanical aptitude and precision-oriented workmanship. Ability to use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other inspection equipment. Ability to troubleshoot tooling problems independently and make sound repair decisions.
