Job Description

Overview The Tool Room Machinist is a highly skilled manufacturing professional responsible for the fabrication, modification, repair, maintenance, and precision measurement of tooling, dies, fixtures, jigs, machine components, and other equipment used to support production operations. The position requires a strong combination of machining expertise, mechanical aptitude, precision craftsmanship, and problem-solving ability. The Tool Room Machinist works from engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, specifications, and verbal instructions to produce components to exact dimensions and tolerances. The Tool Room Machinist plays a critical role in supporting production by ensuring tooling and equipment is properly built, maintained, repaired, and available when needed. This position works closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, Quality, and other manufacturing personnel to troubleshoot problems, reduce downtime, improve tooling, and develop solutions to manufacturing challenges. Responsibilities Communicating with supervisors and project leads to defining the needs of the production floor. Troubleshoot tooling, fixtures, and machine components to identify root causes and develop effective solutions. Manufacture, modify, repair, and maintain precision tools, dies, fixtures, jigs, gauges, and machine components. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, GD&T, specifications, and work instructions. Support the maintenance of machine tools within the tool room. Support continuous improvement initiatives involving tooling, machining processes, and manufacturing efficiency. Support organizing and maintaining minimum quantities of all raw materials, mold building accessories and tooling required to shape materials. Collaborate closely with production managers, engineering teams, and procurement departments to align tool availability with production schedules and technical specifications. Sustaining an organized and safety-compliant tool room. Ensure that the right tools are available when needed, effectively minimizing downtime and production delays. Maintain detailed record-keeping to track tool usage, wear, and maintenance schedules. Must accept and provide guidance, training, and support as required by the tool room team. Contribute to cost control and process improvement initiatives. Assist engineers with projects by creating designs and new parts, developing processes, and reverse-engineering. Create part and assembly prints for new tools and components. Operates machines and assist in tool room day to day needs as required by work demand.
Skills/Abilities:
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong troubleshooting and mechanical skills. Set up and operate a variety of manual and CNC machine tools, including Milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, drill presses, sawing equipment, CNC machining equipment, other specialized tool room equipment. Perform precision machining operations including milling, turning, drilling, tapping, boring, grinding, and fitting. Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, gauges, and other inspection equipment. Must be able to prove their ability to operate as a level 1 machinist. Ability to read and write English.
Experience/Education:
High School diploma or GED required. Practical experience in a tool room environment. Strong foundation in machining, engineering, or related field. Strong knowledge of machining principles and manufacturing processes. Technical certificate, associate degree, or other formal training in machining, manufacturing technology, tool and die, or a related field preferred. Experience using CAD/CAM software is a plus.
Physical requirements:
Must be able to stand, walk, push, bend, crawl, climb and/or squat for 10+ hours in a day. Must be able to lift up to 25-50 Ibs at a time. Regularly perform repetitive tasks Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work in a manufacturing facility environment. Must be able to operate machinery. Lift and move tooling, materials, and machine components within applicable company safety limits. Frequently use hands and fingers to operate machinery and precision tools. Wear required personal protective equipment. Work in a manufacturing/tool room environment with exposure to noise, machining operations, lubricants, and metalworking materials. Pay:
From $23.74 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 50.0 per week
