Job Description

Tooling Technician Posted on April 16, 2025 by JMJ Phillip We are seeking a Tooling Technician with hands-on experience in mold maintenance, repair, and modification for injection molding operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring tooling is maintained in top condition and supports continuous production by troubleshooting issues, managing tooling components, and collaborating with production teams. Position Responsibilities Maintain injection molds in excellent working condition through scheduled inspection and lubrication Perform preventative maintenance, including disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of complex mold tooling Repair or fabricate cores, cavities, and other mold components Troubleshoot and resolve mold-related issues; distinguish between mold, machine, and process-related problems Modify existing molds for design or process improvements Operate precision shop equipment including lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses to manufacture or repair mold components Ensure all repairs meet dimensional specifications using appropriate measuring equipment Work with setup and process technicians to confirm accurate mold installation and function Assist production as needed, including operating machines or performing setup tasks Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to report progress or flag issues Manage inventory of spare mold parts and repair supplies Read and interpret technical documents, drawings, and repair manuals Maintain accurate maintenance records, order parts, and coordinate outside repair services Operate equipment such as overhead cranes following safety protocols Maintain a clean and organized work area Identify and report any unsafe practices or conditions Follow all safety procedures and maintain compliance with company policies Prerequisites Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent required Technical school training or 2-3 years of hands-on mold repair experience Minimum of 5 years in injection mold maintenance or modification Journeyman Tool & Die certification required Skills & Competencies Proficient in blueprint reading, manual machining, and tool setup Familiarity with PVC and CPVC injection molding processes Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude High math proficiency for measurement and process-related calculations Excellent problem-solving and communication skills Strong time management and organizational abilities Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks English fluency required; Spanish bilingual preferred Certifications (Preferred, but Not Required) Journeyman Tool & Die Certification (Required) OSHA Safety Certification (Preferred) CNC Machining or Mill Certification What the Role Offers A stable and supportive work environment focused on quality and craftsmanship Direct involvement in maintaining critical tooling for high-volume production Opportunities to work with advanced equipment and collaborate with a skilled team The ability to expand your skills in a well-equipped and safety-conscious shop A company culture that values initiative, innovation, and continuous improvement Competitive salary range: $70,000 - $90,000, based on experience and qualifications Why Janesville?
