Designs custom tooling, jigs, fixtures, and special gauges required for manufacturing processes using SolidWorks, CAD/CAM, and standard office software. Collaborates closely with shop floor personnel and engineering teams to translate specifications into functional manufacturing tools.
Responsibilities:
Design jigs, fixtures, tooling, and gauges based on engineering blueprints, tool orders, and shop specifications. Collaborate with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design challenges regarding materials, tolerances, serviceability, and manufacturing methods. Perform geometric and algebraic calculations to establish accurate tool configurations and dimensions. Select and integrate standard components (e.g., bushings, tool bits) into custom tool designs. Prepare initial sketches, preliminary layouts, detail drawings, and design documentation. Follow quality, safety, and security protocols in a shop environment with moving mechanical parts.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Associate degree (A.A.) from a two-year college or technical school, or 6-12 months of related experience/training, or an equivalent combination.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with SolidWorks, CAD/CAM software, and Microsoft Office.
Core Competencies:
Strong grasp of basic algebra, geometry, and mechanical blueprint reading.
Soft Skills:
Effective written/oral communication, strong problem-solving abilities, high attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset.
Preferred Qualifications:
Hands-on experience working directly with shop floor teams in a precision machining or manufacturing environment. Demonstrated ability to manage design projects within strict time and budget constraints.
Pay:
